Biography

Tru The Saxophonist (she/they) is a 25-year-old Jamaican Saxophonist and alumni of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she studied Professional Music with focuses in Music Performance, Music Production, and Music Education. Tru is the founder of the My Sax, My Voice (MSMV) Scholarship, a SYOS Artist, and a Make Music Day Champion.

Tru was born in Kingston, Jamaica and grew up in Edgewater Portmore, Jamaica before migrating to Connecticut, USA at the age of 6. It was there she began playing the saxophone at age 9 through her local school music program in Groton, Connecticut. She has been playing the saxophone ever since. 

Tru has a social media following of over 153,000 and has performed on reputable stages including TD Garden. She has also performed across the globe in countries including the United States, Jamaica, and Nigeria.

Tru The Saxophonist aspires to pave a way for Black women and Black non-binary people in the music industry by advocating for women’s rights, gender equality, gender identity rights, and racial justice through her artistry and her musicianship.
