Updates

  • SBC Coaches has boosted its double-decker fleet with a new #Enviro400 from us. It is the first brand-new Alexander Dennis vehicle the Leigh-on-Sea, Essex-based business has bought. Highly specified, the bus has wood-effect flooring throughout, and 85 high-backed Lazzerini Srl S.B. Pratico seats in a muted grey colour scheme, with three-point belts and USB chargers in the seatbacks. It is also fitted with a radio and public address system, digital tachograph, Hanover Displays LED destination displays and Centrad CCTV. It joins two Enviro400 double-deckers already in the fleet, one 20-plate and one 22-plate, both bought from prior operators. Together the three buses will fulfil a variety of private hire and schools work that requires high capacity. Marc Preston, Managing Director of SBC Coaches, said: “We’re very proud of the existing two Enviro400 buses in our fleet, both bought when just a couple of years old. They’re fantastic buses and our passengers love them. To add this brand new Enviro400 as part of our fleet investment this year is a major boon. “We’re proud to continue investing in high-specification vehicles to ensure our customers across Essex and beyond enjoy comfortable, reliable, and modern travel every time they journey with us.” Our Regional Sales Manager Mark Taylor said: “We’re delighted to hand over this beautifully-specified, British-built Enviro400 to SBC Coaches – the first time they’ve bought a brand-new bus from us. It’s particularly pleasing that they’ve made the purchase based on the performance of their second-hand Enviro400 buses. Huge thanks to Marc and the team for putting their trust in Alexander Dennis.”

The first examples of our next-generation #Enviro200EV electric single-decker have entered passenger service at Go North East, part of The Go-Ahead Group! Four Enviro200EV have taken over the X66 route, which links Gateshead Interchange with the Metrocentre shopping complex. The buses are part of a wider joint investment from Go North East, the The North East Combined Authority and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. They have been fully built in Britain at our factory in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Each of the electric buses is 10.9m long and offers up to 37 seats. The new buses feature a range of accessibility upgrades compared with the buses they replace, such as an additional wheelchair or pram space, audio-visual next-stop announcements, hearing loops and external sounders to alert pedestrians, helping to make bus travel more inclusive for everyone. The Enviro200EV’s lightweight design philosophy makes the buses around two tonnes lighter than other electric single-deckers, requiring less energy and increasing their efficiency. This ensures plenty of range from the buses’ 400kWh batteries. Our President & Managing Director Paul Davies said: “We’re delighted to see the first next-generation Enviro200EV launched at Go North East, marking the introduction into passenger service of a brand new, British-built electric single-deck bus. Designed with lightweight principles and featuring a new interior, these buses will set new standards for efficiency and passenger experience. We are grateful to the Go-Ahead Group for their trust in our product as one of the first customers to choose the new Enviro200EV.” Ben Gilligan MBA FCILT, Managing Director of Go North East, said: “We want to be at the forefront of sustainable bus travel and being the first operator to operate the Enviro200EV is an important part of this. “Our new buses will make a huge difference to our customers and communities in Gateshead. Our passengers onboard will enjoy smoother, more comfortable journeys on modern vehicles while communities benefit from quieter, zero emissions buses on the roads.” (📸 Ho-Kit Lam (exterior) / Go North East (interior))

  • We’re looking forward to attending Meet the Bus Operator tomorrow, hosted by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) at the NEC in Birmingham, taking place alongside Bus & Coach Expo and the Commercial Vehicle Show.   Representing us on the day will be Jamie MacIntosh, Business Development Manager, Laura Tofts, Head of Product Support, and James Belgum, Head of Commercial AD24. They’ll be spending time with operators and local transport authorities from across the UK, discussing shared challenges, emerging opportunities, and what’s shaping the future of bus transport.   These conversations will also provide an opportunity to discuss our product offering, spanning next-generation electric and low-emission vehicles, through to #AD24, our dedicated aftermarket support function.   It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and make new connections – so if you’re attending too, we’d love to chat.

  • Congratulations to Mechanical Engineering student Matthew Fulton, who will be joining our NFI Group Inc. colleagues in Winnipeg on a Saltire Scholars Programme internship this summer! Over the years, we've had the pleasure of hosting many brilliant Saltire Scholars at Alexander Dennis and benefiting from their contributions to our business. Several went on to join our company full-time. It's great to see the wider NFI Group take part too, and we look forward to seeing Matthew's impact this summer! #WeMovePeople

I’m pleased to announce that I have accepted a mechanical engineering internship offer this summer at NFI Group Inc. in Winnipeg, Canada. New Flyer is the heavy-duty transit bus leader in North America, serving all 25 of the largest transit agencies. They are prioritising sustainability and have delivered over 1,900 zero-emission buses to date. I’m really looking forward to starting my internship, where I will be involved in bus and motor coach design, testing, production engineering and manufacturing operations. This internship wouldn’t have been possible without Entrepreneurial Scotland’s flagship Saltire Scholars Programme. After an initial application and assessment centre, I gained access to an exclusive pool of worldwide internships, of which New Flyer immediately stood out. I’d particularly like to thank Katrina Devine for her continued invaluable support during both the internship and work permit applications.

  • Our Regional Sales Manager Mark Taylor has supplied English coach operator Whites St Albans Ltd with its first Enviro400 bus. It has been bought for private hires requiring higher-capacity vehicles. The 11.5m double-decker has 85 Lazzerini Srl S.B. Pratico seats in Camira Vita non-animal leather with white diamond stitching. It has three-point seatbelts throughout, as well as USB chargers in the seatbacks. The bus is fully kitted out with a radio/PA system, digital tachograph, Hanover Displays LED destination equipment and CCTV supplied by Centrad. It’s the first Alexander Dennis vehicle in the Whites St Albans line-up, and the highest-capacity by some 30 seats: the operator specialises in luxury minicoaches, with a handful of 51-55-seater coaches completing the fleet. Managing Director Greg White said: “At Whites we are always looking for something a bit different, and in this case, a higher-capacity vehicle to further complement what we can offer our clients. We believe there is without doubt a niche in this particular market, and we feel the Enviro400 represents a very stylish and cost-effective way for us to dip our toe in the water. “At only 11.5m it will be much easier to utilise for corporate shuttles and dinners in London than any of its competitors, and with the usual Whites refinements this vehicle looks absolutely stunning. “Dealing with the team at Alexander Dennis has been extremely simple throughout, and we very much look forward to seeing the Enviro400 in action.” Our Regional Sales Manager Mark Taylor said: “It’s been a pleasure working with Greg White and the team for the first time. “We are seeing more top-tier coach operators come to Alexander Dennis for reliable, premium and British-built vehicles for high-capacity work, and we’re very proud that we can now count Whites Coaches among them. A big thank you to the team for choosing Alexander Dennis to supply this beautiful vehicle.”

  • Our newly-launched next-generation #Enviro200EV electric bus has been shortlisted in the Contribution to Sustainable Transport category of the 2026 Scottish Transport Awards! The announcement comes as Scottish operators prepare to confirm orders for the type with funding from the third round of the Scottish Zero-Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB3). The next-generation Enviro200EV builds on the design philosophy of the Enviro200 low-emission bus family and has been designed as a highly versatile zero-emission bus that meets the specific requirements of bus operation in Scotland and the UK. The new Enviro200EV offers midi and full-size single deck lengths between 9.9 and 11.7m at a narrow 2.47m width that has been achieved without reducing passenger capacity. A major engineering feature is the new lightweight structure that brings with it improved stiffness and reduces structural-borne noise. Throughout the design of the bus, all components have been right-sized to offer durability and longevity while keeping weight to a minimum. This results in a bus that’s two tonnes lighter than competitor products and which offers excellent efficiency. The midibus concept has been retained with 19.5-inch wheels which create more space in the passenger area. Clever design allows for a wide entrance gangway that improves access for all, minimal interior steps, and generous headroom at the rear of the bus allowing tall passengers to stand up straight without their head touching the ceiling. A maximised wheelbase increases the amount of seating that can be reached without encountering a step. On a 11.7m bus with two bays for wheelchair users, 16 forward-facing seats are available in the low-floor area, and each bay has three tip-ups to give a total of up to 22 step-free seats. A new interior design carries the external design language into the passenger saloon. The lighter weight means that less energy is required to move the bus. Further reduction of power consumption is expected from the Enviro200EV’s reduced overall dimensions. Up to 50cm shorter, 20cm lower and 8cm narrower than other electric single-deckers in the market, less interior volume needs to be heated or cooled, allowing the Enviro200EV to offer up to 10% efficiency benefit at an equivalent passenger capacity to competing vehicles. Our President & Managing Director Paul Davies said: “Our next-generation Enviro200EV is the culmination of years of cross-functional development from our fantastic engineering, production and procurement teams, who have reimagined Britain’s most popular bus for the zero-emission age. “The Enviro200EV has been very well received since we first unveiled it to customers and stakeholders in Scotland at a ‘Meet the fleet’ event earlier this year. Its shortlisting for the 2026 Scottish Transport Awards is further recognition of the contribution it can offer for sustainable transport in Scotland and beyond.”

👋 MPs speak up for British-built buses The APPG was pleased to hear Susan Murray MP, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Scotland, call on Government to back the British bus manufacturing industry and the skills development and job creation it brings to the UK. Ms Murray questioned: “Does my hon. Friend agree that we should be developing Britain’s skills base here, and that whether it be buses or AI, we should be putting British jobs and British security first?” This follows Ms Murray’s earlier contribution this week, where she highlighted the recent ScotZEB3 funding decision which saw over half of the £45 million funding go to overseas bus manufacturers to the detriment of UK manufacturers. 🚍 The APPG is encouraged to see MPs from across the House of Commons promote the urgent need to support our domestic bus manufacturing industry and the important role it plays in creating jobs across all parts of the UK.

👉 Yesterday, co-chair for the APPG for British Buses, and local MP for Alexander Dennis’ Falkirk facility, Euan Stainbank MP, called on Government to ensure that taxpayer funding for new zero-emission buses benefits British manufacturers, jobs and communities. Euan Stainbank MP pointed to the recent outcomes of the ScotZEB3 £45 million funding scheme for new zero-emission buses in Scotland, which saw half of the funding awarded to overseas manufacturers, directly threatening bus manufacturing jobs in his constituency. In his own words: “With demand for ZEBs rising but domestic market share reducing, Scottish manufacturing jobs are being lost with the assistance of taxpayer money, and something must change.” 🚨 It was important to hear the Secretary of State recognise in his response that this outcome prevents much needed investment into local manufacturing communities, both in Falkirk and across the wider domestic supply chain.

  • With a slim 2.35m width and short overhangs, our next-generation #Enviro100EV "big small bus" is designed for the routes others shy away from. Perfectly at home on narrow country lanes and constrained rural roads, it delivers confident handling where space is at a premium. But compact doesn’t mean compromised. Inside, passengers still enjoy the feel of a bigger bus, with a spacious, comfortable environment and the smooth, quiet ride only electric can deliver. From rural routes to town centres with tight turns, the Enviro100EV offers transport authorities and bus operators the flexibility they need – without losing capacity, comfort or performance!
