The UK Government has just committed £90m to strengthen cyber security for SMEs. It’s a clear acknowledgement that smaller organisations are increasingly exposed as threats become more automated, scalable and persistent. Cyber resilience is no longer just an enterprise concern. Expectations are rising across the board, and SMEs are firmly in focus. This funding creates a timely opportunity to reassess how prepared your organisation really is. "The challenge is not to fear and avoid AI, but to ensure your defensive cyber security measures keep pace with the speed of offensive use." James Henry, our Cyber Director, cuts through the noise to unpack what Anthropic’s Claude Mythos really means for UK organisations. This isn’t about entirely new threats. It’s about the acceleration of existing ones. AI is compressing the gap between vulnerability discovery and exploitation, turning known weaknesses into usable attacks faster than ever. The implication is clear: resilience, speed of patching, and AI-enabled defence are now critical. Organisations that rely on traditional response timelines will struggle to keep up as the attack window shrinks. One week to go. Cyber Essentials is changing, and some of the updates could catch UK businesses off guard. While the five core controls remain the same, the assessment criteria are becoming more stringent. Requirements around MFA, patching timelines, cloud services, and end-of-life software are all tightening, with several areas now resulting in automatic failure if not addressed. These changes apply to all assessments created after 27 April 2026. If your renewal is approaching, now is the time to review your position and ensure you are prepared. My learned collegue James Henry, part of the team in SysGroup, has written a very interesting and, balanced article which cuts through some of the hype and noise about Claude Mythos. It does highlight that this is a tool which can be used for either good or ill. However, it is the human wielding them that determines that (for now). https://lnkd.in/ehFcTtDU #Claude #Cyberresilience #sysgroup

A great day with CyberArk. Yesterday, our team had the opportunity to spend time at the CyberArk office, diving deep into identity security, threat protection, and what it really takes to secure modern UK businesses. From exploring their services and packages to hands-on discussions with experts, it was a valuable session that left us even better equipped to support our clients. A big thank you to Ron Illovic for hosting us and making the day so insightful and engaging. At SysGroup, we believe identity is the new perimeter. Partnering with an organisation like CyberArk allows us to help organisations secure every user, every access point, and stay ahead of evolving threats. Looking forward to what’s next in the SysGroup x CyberArk partnership! #SysGroup #CyberArk #IdentitySecurity #CyberSecurity #Partnership Ron Illovic Lars Arndt Matt Woudberg Dave Ward Ben Gordon Simon Kirkup Isobel Bowdery Gianno Glorioso Jacob Marsh Liam W. The biggest cyber risk facing UK councils isn’t just attackers, it’s infrastructure. Decades-old systems, rising maintenance costs and limited interoperability are holding back transformation and exposing critical services to risk. We help councils change that. By modernising infrastructure and delivering secure private cloud platforms, we help local authorities strengthen resilience, reduce risk and move forward with confidence, without putting day-to-day services at risk. Booking.com is the latest reminder that third-party cyber incidents do not stay neatly contained inside the supplier. As TheRegister reported on 13 April 2026, Booking.com warned customers that reservation data may have been accessed, including names, contact details, booking dates, and messages with hotels. For business leaders, the important point is not just the breach itself. It is what happens next. When real customer journey data is exposed, follow-on phishing becomes more believable. That creates customer confusion, support pressure, fraud complaints, manual workarounds, and leadership distraction. This is where the hidden cost starts to show up: - service teams pulled into reassurance and verification - extra fraud handling - operational drag - damage to customer confidence - time lost by senior leaders managing the fallout There is also a governance lesson here. Compliance matters, but compliance does not equal resilience. The stronger leadership question is whether your business is ready for the second-order impact when a supplier or platform close to your customers has an incident. Three useful board-level questions: 1. Which suppliers sit closest to our customer trust? 2. Do we know how incident decisions get made in the first 72 hours? 3. Are we prepared for the phishing and fraud wave that can follow exposed customer data? The incident is the headline. However the real question is, when a supplier has a cyber incident, how quickly does it become your commercial problem?
