Lake Burley Griffin Lake Closures & Alerts |

The following areas of Lake Burley Griffin are closed to Primary contact activities (such as swimming, diving, windsurfing) due to high and extreme alert levels for blue green algae and/or bacteria:
Lotus Bay, West Basin, East Basin, Black Mountain Beach, Tarcoola Reach/Weston Park East and Yarramundi Reach/Weston Park West.
A Medium Alert for blue green algae is in place for Yarralumla Beach
The Captain Cook Memorial Jet will not be operational due to a high alert for blue green algae.
These closures and alerts will remain in force up to and including 25 February 2011.

Works Approval Granted - Blocks 2 & 3 Section 5 Campbell |

On 10 February 2011, the NCA granted works approval pursuant to Section 12(1)(b) of the Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988 for 80 test pit locations associated with testing for soil and contaminants on Blocks 2 and 3 Section 5 Campbell.
As per the advice from the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPaC), the NCA advised the applicant that there is to be no significant impacts on matters protected under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
This approval to undertake the environmental site assessment has been granted, as findings from the assessment will inform a future referral under the EPBC Act for future development of the site. The proposed test pit work is to take approximately 4 days on site.
