Hello @mikefitzman
Thank you for reaching out. When you deactivate the AMP plugin, it generally removes all AMP page references from your website. Please note that Googlebots will then require approximately 2–3 weeks to re-crawl your site and update Google Search Console accordingly.
I will recommend using this mini plugin to redirect ?amp=1 pages to non-AMP pages
Additionally, please check the official documentation to remove AMP pages from Google Search Console
We hope this helps!
Hi Milind
Thank you for replying. The problem here is I’ve not used AMP for years, not weeks! There should be no record of anything AMP to do with my website, and yet there is.
I’m hoping to not need redirects for pages that were maybe four years ago.
Any additional help, much appreciated.
Mike
Hi Milind, hope you received my reply, any further thoughts on this issue? I’ve had a regex redirection in place in Rank Math for some years, I’ve renewed that redirection based on instructions from Rank Math and still receive 200 responses to pages that should return 301. I have no AMP plugins, no leftovers in .htaccess, no remnant options or tables.
Hello @mikefitzman
Thank you for your patience, besides the previous response, I recommend clearing your site’s cache to ensure no outdated pages are being served.
It’s crucial that your redirection for the ?amp=1 query parameter results in a 301 (Moved Permanently) status, not a 200 (OK). Please consult Rank Math plugin support for precise guidance on configuring this redirection.
Additionally, I suggest utilizing the Remove Outdated Content tool in Search Console, as detailed in the official documentation.
If you are still seeing AMP pages, please contact Search Console support as they can provide you with better guidance.
We hope this helps!
Thanks Milind, I’m using the suggested Rank Math regex expression for AMP redirects so this should be correct, caches have been cleared multiple times, yet I still see 200 responses to AMP pages with no plugin! I’m not sure how Google can help with this but I will contact Rank Math support and ask if they have any ideas.
This issue stemmed from a problem with Google Search Console, not the WordPress AMP plugin. Therefore, I’ve marked it as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you require any further assistance.
Thanks Milind, the guys from AMP for WP helped me solve this issue with a redirect in my .htaccess file. It’s really a broader AMP problem, but it’s solved now in my case.
