Tattoo Conceptualization
The first step of getting a tattoo is knowing what you want and where on your body you want to get it. Finding the perfect tattoo design reference can present a “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” scenario. We may have a vague idea of something we want, and when we look at visual reference the idea becomes more concrete. Conversely, we might look at visual reference and see something that sparks a new idea. for most, tattoo conceptualization is an organic, evolving process between what we see in our mind’s eye and the visual representations that make our ideas more concrete.
Ink seekers sometimes look to their tattooists to do the initial conceptualization work and to get advice on different design ideas. only the customer can make this decision of what to get and where it will go. friends, family, coworkers, and other people whose opinions you value might be able to help inform your decision, but the final say is ultimately yours. If you do ask a tattooist what you should get, he or she will most likely encourage you to do your homework and establish a clear idea on your own. The moment you give up control of your tattoo conceptualization process, you take the risk of not getting the tattoo you truly want.
Doing your tattoo conceptualization homework doesn’t only involve deciding what to get and where to get it, but also involves finding the visual reference to communicate your ideas to a tattooist. You will learn much more about the benefits of using different types of visual reference for different types of tattoos in Chapter 7 (page 98), but the key point is that you need more than just an idea—you need visual representations to communicate your ideas in the design development process.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseVery informative about some things. Very good quality paperbackbook. star rating due to the authors/publishers kind of upwelling themselves a lot. It seems like they try and mention their own name as much as possible. When reading it, you can tell. Nice book and I love it has a lot of decent tattoo flash and the quality.
