You can insert your custom designs on clothing when you create with Canva. On the website or app, search for your preferred apparel: T-shirt, hoodie, sweatshirt, onesie, or tote bag. You can either start with one of our available pre-designed templates or start with a blank template.

Once you’re on the editor page, find the Upload tab on the left sidebar. Tap the Upload button or drag and drop your custom design onto the field. Once it’s uploaded, you can easily incorporate it into your project.

Here are some best practices for creating custom merch and clothes design:

1. Know your target audience

Whether you’re creating custom clothing for your brand or for your loved ones, knowing your target audience should be your foremost consideration. Investigate what they like and what they will have the most use for. 

2. Determine your purpose

If you’re creating for a brand, determine your goal for your custom merch. Is it to attract new customers, establish your connection with your existing audience, raise awareness about a promo, or introduce your rebrand? Knowing this will help you zero in on the best type of item to achieve these goals.

3. Incorporate your unique personality

You can make your custom merch and clothes design stand out by incorporating your unique flair. If you’re producing your item for a brand, make sure to highlight the brand personality in your design. If you’re customizing an item for a loved one or your own closet, inserting personal references into your design would be a cool touch.
