We constantly evaluate the pet foods available to us and what we choose to carry in the store. When we find a food that is better than a product we currently offer, we phase out those foods that we no longer feel we can recommend.

Green Acres Kennel Shop offers many brands of food in many formulas because we know there is no single brand or formula that is the best for all pets, despite what you may hear on TV, from friends, or even from other pet professionals. We encourage our clients to rotate among many formulas and even brands of food to get optimal nutrition for their pets. It’s what our owners, Don and Paula Hanson, have done with their pets for over twenty years.

Both cat and dog food are available as dry food or kibble, wet food in cans and pouches, and fresh, biologically appropriate food in frozen raw, freeze-dried, and dehydrated formats. Two of the brands, Northwest Naturals and My Perfect Pet, are made from human-grade ingredients.

Green Acres Kennel Shop’s owner, Don Hanson, first became interested in pet food in 1991 when he and his wife had a puppy, Gus, with chronic health issues. Their veterinarian diagnosed these issues as related to what Gus was being fed. That started a lifelong passion for learning about pet food and feeding pets for optimal health. One of the units in the Puppy and Rescue Headstart-ONLINE class taught by Don addresses pet nutrition in detail. Don also teaches this class independently, online, and in person.
