What if we stopped treating interviews as tests to pass or fail, and started treating them as data points? 🤔
Last week, Senior Creative Ops leader Kate Sullivan joined our Jobseeker Journey session to share her insights during an interactive workshop for leaders in career transition. She walked us through how to shift from feeling discouraged by the interview process to feeling empowered, using a framework built on intentional preparation and reflection.
For anyone else on this journey, here are some of her brilliant insights:
🧠 Go beyond the 'About Us' page. Find out why the role is open. Is it new growth? Did someone leave? Knowing the backstory helps you frame yourself as the perfect solution.
🧘♂️ Make time to relieve your stress. Your pre-interview routine matters. Don't spend the final hour cramming. Meditate, go for a walk, listen to music—do whatever it takes to get your mind right. Stress relief isn't a luxury; it's a strategy.
🎬 Deliver the "press release," not the "tell-all documentary." Your story should be concise and impactful. Use the STAR method to structure your answers and avoid rambling. A strategic pause to gather your thoughts is more powerful than filling the air with noise.
📈 Debrief every interview. Your past interviews are data points. What trends do you see? Where do you stumble? Where do you shine? End every interview by reviewing what worked and what didn't, to prepare you for the next.
Remember, this process is about refinement, not perfection. Keep learning and keep growing.
Thank you again to the brilliant Kate Sullivan for reframing the interview process for us. Remember to de-stress to stay energized, debrief to find the patterns, and research to find your angle.
Sending encouragement to all the talented leaders on this journey. You've got this. 💪
