There are two sides to the Gen AI era for ecommerce. The tools for merchants to provide superior customer experiences become more powerful by the day. So do the tools available to scam artists and fraudsters who are now able to operate at unprecedented speed and scale. Forbes contributor Joe McKendrick and associate editor Sophia Acevedo took a deep dive into the unpleasant underbelly of AI-driven scams. Signifyd’s Arjun Kakkar took the Forbes team through the rapidly evolving world of triangulation fraud, which increasingly turns to AI to build “convincing storefronts, polished product listings and credible brand-like marketing.” Read the full story at the link in the comments below.👇

Looks like someone didn’t take a break… they took the whole lot Recent headlines around 12 tonnes of stolen Kit Kat stock in central Italy might sound like an April Fools story, but it’s very real. And while this one made the news, retailers across the UK and Europe deal with versions of this every day, just in less obvious ways: • Bulk buying to resell at inflated prices • Bots clearing inventory in seconds • Returns and refund abuse eating into margins What looks like “sold out” isn’t always strong demand. In many cases, it’s behaviour that sits somewhere between opportunistic and abusive, and it’s becoming harder to spot. The challenge isn’t just stopping it, it’s doing it without getting in the way of genuine customers. Because growth shouldn’t come at the cost of control. If you’re heading to MRC | Merchant Risk Council London 13th -15th April, we’ll be there talking about exactly this and how retailers are balancing growth, control and performance in practice. #NotAnAprilFool

Our biggest takeaway from Shoptalk 2026: AI is moving faster than the shoppers using it. While the industry is sprinting toward optimizing for agentic commerce, consumers are taking a much more measured pace. The biggest challenge for merchants in 2026 isn't necessarily going to be the technology. It’s also going to be bridging the trust gap. Signifyd’s Angie Mazza Assennato was on the ground in Las Vegas last week, diving into the sessions and debates to explore how these shifting behaviors are redefining the ecommerce landscape.
