London Calling at SXSW Austin! We shared highlights from Synapse’s work in Virtual Production, then spent the rest of the day in the rooms that matter, panels, partner conversations, and the hallway follow-ups where real projects start. What stood out most was how quickly the conversation was shifting. VP is not only a toolset, it is a creative methodology, and AI is becoming a bigger part of real-time pipelines, from previs through iteration and delivery. Proud of Justin Diener for representing Synapse on stage, and grateful to CELL and Here East for convening the community, along with Duke DuQuesnay, off stage. BTS and a few moments from the people we connected with are in the photos, and we are excited to keep building across London, Austin, and LA. SXSW is always a reminder that the next wave of storytelling gets built when creators, innovators, and researchers are in the room together. This week, the conversations around Virtual Production, immersive experience design, AI, and real-time pipelines all pointed to the same thing. The work is evolving beyond volume to a broader creative methodology that helps teams iterate faster, collaborate earlier, and build experiences that can actually scale. Huge thanks to the partners and community that helped make London Calling a standout moment, and to everyone helping connect innovation ecosystems across East London, Austin, and LA. If you were in Austin and want to compare notes on VP workflows, applied R&D, AI-driven pipelines, or what the next commercial models for immersive experiences look like, let’s connect. Synapse Virtual Production reposted this
Thank you, Lora Markova, for the incredibly gracious words about Synapse Virtual Production and the fantastic recap of the Creative Experience Lab London (CELL) panel at SXSW! Always a pleasure to see my Synapse biz partner Justin Diener highlighting the power of VP beyond the volume. Pushing the boundaries of storytelling and immersive design takes a global village. A massive thank you to Jemma Hotta TEP, Gavin Poole , and Graham Hitchen for steering the conversation, and to UCL and Loughborough University London for driving this applied research. Huge appreciation to the organizations and individuals who made #LondonCalling such a success: Here East, London & Partners, SXSW London, Wise, and Oury Clark alongside Andrew Chitty, Jo Tacchi, Ben Cole, Haly Berni, Michael Magan, and Jack Fraser. Finally, a very special shout-out to Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson. Her continued support of cross-border partnerships is exactly what allows the creative economy to thrive between innovation hubs like London, LA, and Austin. 🌍💡 #VirtualProduction #CreativeTech #Innovation #SXSW
𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 (𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟) at SXSW! – a great panel on the future of live and immersive experiences with the brilliant Justin Diener, moderated by wonderful Jemma Hotta, and introduced by our very own Loughborough University London’s Graham Hitchen. Drawing upon Synapse Virtual Production’s groundbreaking work and the creative experience pilots funded by UCL and Loughborough University London at 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟, we discussed VP technologies and techniques beyond the volume and the emergence of VP as a creative methodology allowing us to find the perfect synergy between creative concept, storytelling dimensions and worldbuilding tools and techniques. We also explored the power of university-industry collaboration and industry-relevant applied research in driving the innovation ecosystems across East London, Austin and LA, and the creative experience economy in transatlantic context. Immense thanks to Here East, London & Partners, SXSW London, Wise and Oury Clark for making #LondonCalling’s 3rd edition a unique creative experience in its own right. And massive thanks to Andrew Chitty and Duke DuQuesnay 🔜 SXSW Austin for sparking the conversation! #creative #experience #economy #immersive #design #VP #innovation #RandD Graham Hitchen Andrew Chitty Jo Tacchi Ben Cole Haly Berni Michael Magan Jack Fraser

Framestore Pictures just shared a behind-the-scenes write-up via Little Black Book on the Resident Evil: Requiem live-action trailer. Synapse Virtual Production is proud to have supported the virtual production work on this project. Our primary focus was previs development, led by Rich Lee and Louise Baker Lee. We also oversaw the real-time pipeline and Virtual Art Department work in partnership with Halogen.io. Shoutout to Rich Lee, Louise Baker Lee, and Christopher Probst, ASC, for the craft that helped bring this to life. The piece is a strong look at how the team balanced an intimate, emotional opening with the horror that follows, and how in-camera details and environment craft help sell that shift. Link to the LBB post: https://lnkd.in/dNpqV3Xw Huge credit to the full team behind the work, and to Framestore for the share. #virtualproduction #incameraVFX #LEDvolume #unrealengine #previs #residentevil

The VP Shift: Women Powering the Future of Filmmaking LA brought the energy. The first WiVP LA Chapter gathering at Los Angeles Center Studios was equal parts thoughtful and actionable, with real conversation and real connection across the room. We were proud to host in partnership with Women In Virtual Production (WiVP) and Alliance of Women Directors (AWD), alongside our team at Synapse Virtual Production. This kind of community takes infrastructure. AMD and Foundry sponsored the event, with additional support from Creamsource, L-Acoustics, BRAMS, Diageo, Mr. Black and Los Angeles Center Studios. The panel set the tone with clarity and candor: Ames O'Connor, Jen McGowan, Connie Kennedy, Maggie Hendrie, and Magdalena Górka, ASC, PSC. Grateful to the teams who made it happen, Synapse Virtual Production, Emilia Page, Emily Haldeman, the WiVP team, Amy Taliaferro, Candice Carella, Kylie Eaton, Carin Mazaira Mazaira, LB Bunch, Ames O’Connor, and the AWD team.
