FBI Director Kash Patel sued the Atlantic and a staff writer in federal court, alleging the magazine ran a “sweeping, malicious, and defamatory hit piece” against him with the intention of marring his reputation. In the complaint, Patel says he is seeking $250 million in damages plus any proceeds from the article. The Atlantic’s article contained extensive reporting — attributed to anonymous people — alleging Patel engaged in “excessive drinking” and “unexplained absences” while leading the FBI. Scientists are conducting controlled burn experiments on test houses to determine what building materials will best protect homes from wildfires. Research in this area has already had an impact on California's fire codes. "Mitigation actions really can reduce the risk to wildfires," explained Murray Morrison, managing director of research at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety.

Breaking news: The military will no longer require U.S. troops to receive the annual flu vaccine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, rolling back what he described as “overreaching mandates that only weaken our war-fighting capabilities.” Hegseth said that, under a new policy, soldiers would be able to take the vaccine if they believed it was in their best interest. “But we will not force you, because your body, your faith and your convictions are not negotiable,” he said.
