Managing Director of Finance & Accounting | StevenDouglas | Carolinas Executive Search | Heart Math Tutoring | SHARE Charlotte
Financial Controller will lead the finance organization, owning the controllership and core accounting operations for a growing franchising organization. You'll oversee the general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, and accounting operations, while partnering closely with the CFO to strengthen controls, improve visibility, and ensure accurate, timely reporting. This is a hands-on role in a lean team—you'll directly guide a small internal staff and coordinate effectively with third-party accounting, tax, and audit partners to keep work moving and standards high. You'll also support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis, helping leadership navigate strategic initiatives and special projects as the business continues to evolve and scale.
The ideal candidate is a CPA and true controller at heart—detail-oriented, comfortable rolling up their sleeves, confident asking the right questions, and able to bring structure and rigor to the close and reporting process while building strong cross-functional relationships.
What YOU Contribute
Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience (accounting manager, assistant controller, controller, or director level), with strong ownership of general ledger, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
CPA required.
Experience in multi-unit, franchise, or royalty-driven businesses is a plus.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software (NetSuite experience preferred); comfort working with multiple feeder systems and improving data flow and controls.
Hands-on ability to oversee (and when needed, perform) core accounting operations, including AR/AP and cash application, while ensuring accuracy and appropriate review/oversight of transactional work performed by a third-party firm.
Ability to work independently, roll up your sleeves in a lean environment, exercise sound accounting judgment (including areas like lease accounting), and communicate clearly with the CFO/ownership, external accountants, and auditors.
Collaborative leadership skills to manage and develop a small team (including a senior accountant and FP&A support), partner cross-functionally, and support budgeting/forecasting and special projects as the business grows.
Company offers a competitive benefits package including 401(k) with company match, health, dental, and life insurance, and company-paid parking. This is a highly visible role with direct access to decision-makers, a small team where you can roll up your sleeves and make immediate impact, and a flexible hybrid schedule (currently 3 days in office).
