We are looking for a skilled GL Accountant to join our team in New York, NY. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining accurate general ledger accounts, preparing financial statements, and conducting detailed variance analyses. This is a long-term contract position that offers the opportunity to work on medium-to-complex accounting tasks while contributing to the success of our organization.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct thorough analysis of financial transaction records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Manage month-end close processes, including reconciliation of balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
• Prepare comprehensive financial reports, such as income statements and balance sheets, for management and client reference.
• Analyze accounting variances and develop detailed variance explanation reports.
• Review financial documents to ensure compliance with accounting standards and principles.
• Create and post month-end journal entries, addressing discrepancies and reconciling accounts within the general ledger.
• Perform variance analysis to compare actual results against budgets and resolve identified discrepancies.
• Collaborate with team members on ad hoc financial projects and reporting needs.
• Ensure adherence to established accounting procedures and provide recommendations for process improvements.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred; a combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered. • 2-5 years of experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, or related roles. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook. • Strong organizational abilities and an analytical mindset to solve moderately complex problems. • Excellent mathematical skills, including the ability to perform detailed financial calculations such as percentages and fractions. • Familiarity with accounting principles, variance analysis, and reconciliation processes. • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams. • Ability to work onsite and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
