Job Summary
The Utility GIS Intern provides data collection / input / analysis for various assets of the water and wastewater utility programs and update records as needed. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting and driving the Company’s Values, RIGHT: Respect, Invest, Growth, Honesty and Teamwork.
Work Performed
Review field conditions and locations of utility assets (water mains, valves, hydrants, service lines, meter pits, easements) and updates system records through mark ups on paper and electronic source documents.
Collect GPS information from Field inspections
Check street addresses for asset descriptions and reconciles locations and information of assets in projects files and records.
Compare multiple source documents with as built information, field check where necessary, and collects updated information.
Takes measurements in field including use of GPS devices
Sketches scaled drawings for as built reference
Enters information into computer programs including spreadsheets, GIS, WAM, etc.
Consolidates and updates source records and files
Provide field observations of construction work being done and prepares daily / as needed inspection reports.
Essential Functions
Data input into spreadsheet and other programs.
Ability to work professionally and represent the Company with coworkers, customers, peers, contractors and officials.
Capability for light physical work.
Work outside within service territory on streets and other public areas where assets are located.
Ability to climb and access construction work sites (construction excavations, concrete vaults, scaffolding) and work outside in year round conditions.
Qualifications
High school diploma with college prep or technical/science/engineering concentrations skills.
At least 1 year of college curriculum completed in a engineering, science or GIS program
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Good problem solving ability and analytical skills.
Computer experience in PC based systems including Word, Excel, GIS/mapping experience preferred
Ability to perform work independently.
Good communication (verbal and written) skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $17.50 per hour.
Pay for holidays that fall during assignment.

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, and filing cabinets.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, and other work materials.
The employee must have the ability to visually inspect and review hard copy and electronic documents. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the time and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
