Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Senior (or above) Environment Artist (World Artist) to join the development of a new IP.
Feed your creativity while collaborating with our team of highly skilled developers to build something innovative, exhilarating, and expansively entertaining!
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with level designers and the art director to bring locations to life from early research and visual development to final in-engine environments. You’ll contribute to crafting spaces that support gameplay, reinforce narrative, and create memorable player experiences. Working as part of a collaborative team, you’ll help translate creative vision into detailed, optimized 3D environments that feel cohesive, intentional, and alive.
As a member of the project, you’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better; with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.
This role is based in our California, U.S. office and follows an onsite work schedule of four days per week. Work arrangements may change at the company's discretion to meet business needs.
You’ll help us by…
- Collaborate with level designers and the art director to discuss and understand game intentions and vision
- Have ownership of a particular part of the game (i.e. a large part of the environment)
- Participate in the ideation of locations/levels by performing research (collecting written descriptions and visual references)
- Craft compelling visual narratives that reinforce and enhance the game’s setting, story, and gameplay elements
- Assess level scope with your immediate supervisor to establish an achievable production schedule
- Build the rough map of the level with the level designer to show the preliminary graphic intentions, gameplays and ensure they are approved
- Set up placeholders and submit prop and material requests to internal or OS teams; follow up on the progress and quality of the work during its development
- Create a variety of 3D models (architecture, foliage, props) from photo references and concept art
- Build (set dress, edit, optimize) realistic detailed 3d environments from photo reference and concept
- Assist in troubleshooting artistic and technical issues
- Solid portfolio demonstrating focus and passion for 3d environment & prop creation
- Professional experience in creating Environment or Prop Art in AAA game development with at least one AAA title connected to your name
- Excellent artistic and design skills, including a keen eye for composition, color theory, and visual storytelling
- Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer)
- Experience working in Modern Game Engines with an awareness of game budgets, limits, and memory constraints
- Ability to consistently resolve issues from a visual, production, and technical perspective
- Basic ability to communicate visually utilizing traditional media
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to adapt to evolving project needs and work under tight deadlines
- Experience in working in or developing procedural workflows via tools like Houdini or UPS
- Experience with photogrammetry or other scanning techniques & workflows
