Location: Las Vegas or Reno
Salary: $180,000 - $210,000 + bonus
Piper Maddox are retained by one of the largest utility companies in the US as they make a critical hire into their complex finance function. This organization are committed to delivering reliable, sustainable, and innovative energy solutions. With revenues close to $3bl, this hire is critical to the long term strategy and growth of the company.
As the Tax Director you will report directly into the CFO, overseeing the complex reporting function. Partnering across the wider finance function you will work guide tax strategy across major capital initiatives, corporate transactions and energy projects.
What you will do:
Lead the preparation and review of consolidated and standalone federal and state income/franchise tax returns, including estimates and extensions, ensuring accurate e-filing and comprehensive workpaper support.
Oversee quarterly and annual income tax provision processes, including rate reconciliation, deferred tax roll forwards, valuation allowance analysis, and tax footnote disclosures; coordinate closely with external auditors.
Direct regulatory tax accounting and reporting, including tax policy research and analyses supporting rate cases, riders, and trackers, ensuring alignment with FERC/USOA and GAAP requirements.
Manages IRS and state examinations relationships, appeals, and correspondence; oversees information requests; negotiates and resolves issues while minimizing risk.
What you will have:
10 -12 years of tax experience – leading / building tax teams.
Ideally, strong Public Accounting background with exposure to utilities engagements.
Strong utility industry experience, particularly with FERC regulations and utility-specific tax requirements.
Proficiency with tax provision/compliance systems, ERP environments, and Excel/BI tools.
Deep expertise in U.S. federal and state income tax, ASC 740, FIN 48, and tax disclosure requirements.
Experience in regulated utilities (FERC/ASC 980) strongly preferred.
