If anyone is interested in developing their skills in Cybersecurity, a quick thought based on my experience that might be helpful. Here are some tips for developing this skill: 1. Start with the Basics — Don’t Rush into Hacking Understanding how computers, networks, and operating systems work is the real foundation. Learn how the internet works, what IP addresses are, how data moves, and how systems communicate. You can’t secure what you don’t understand. 2. Take Free/Cheap Structured Courses First Platforms like Google Cybersecurity, TryHackMe, HackTheBox, Cybrary, and YouTube tutorials can guide you step-by-step. If you don’t have money for certifications yet, start here — knowledge first, certificates later. 3. Build a Home Lab (Even if You Only Have a Laptop) Practice is everything. Use VirtualBox or VMware, install Kali Linux, simulate attacks, and practice ethical hacking techniques. Break things. Fix them. Learn. 4. Learn & Use the Right Tools Tools like Wireshark, Nmap, Metasploit, Burp Suite, Nessus, Splunk or SIEM platforms are essential. You don’t need to know all, but start practicing with a few regularly. 5. Document Your Learning — It Attracts Opportunities Create a GitHub, Notion page, LinkedIn posts, or blog to share what you're learning. Recruiters love to see proof of consistency and passion. 6. Join Cybersecurity Communities Connect with people on LinkedIn, Discord, Facebook, X (Twitter), or local meetups. Join CTFs (Capture the Flag challenges). You grow faster when you’re inside the ecosystem. 7. Stay Curious & Keep Building Cybersecurity is not about knowing everything — it's about being curious, asking “what if?”, and constantly learning. The field evolves daily, so stay updated.

🚫 3 Things You Should Never Do When Learning Cybersecurity!!! Breaking into the cybersecurity field is exciting ,but it’s easy to fall into traps that slow your growth. Here are 3 mistakes to avoid: 1️⃣ Chasing tools instead of fundamentals It’s tempting to jump straight into Kali Linux or hacking tools. But without networking, OS, and security basics, tools won’t make sense. 2️⃣ Learning only for certifications Certs are valuable, but if your only focus is passing exams, you’ll miss real-world problem-solving. Labs, projects, and hands-on practice are where the real learning happens. 3️⃣ Trying to learn everything at once Cybersecurity is massive: SOC, pentesting, cloud, forensics, GRC, etc. Pick one path, go deep, then expand. Depth > breadth at the start. 💡 Pro tip: Document what you learn. Even small notes or LinkedIn posts build your personal brand and reinforce your knowledge. 👉 For those already in the field what’s one mistake you wish you avoided when starting out? #cybesecurity #india #linkedin #information #Pentesting #networking #compliance
