Experiential Learning FAQs : What is experiential learning? In simple terms it is “Learning by doing “, While “doing” is part of it, experiential learning also requires reflection, conceptualization and application. The learning happens when individuals analyze their experience and connect it to future actions. What theory is experiential learning based on? Experiential learning is grounded in David Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory (ELT), which outlines a four-stage cycle - Concrete Experience → Reflective Observation → Abstract Conceptualization→ Active Experimentation. Does experiential learning always involve outdoor activities? Experiential learning can happen anywhere - in classrooms, workplaces, or in a community setting. It’s about active engagement, not the location. One common misconception about experiential learning: “Experiential learning is just fun and engaging group activities” but in fact effective experiential learning requires careful design of activities, guided reflection, and facilitation to ensure participants extract meaningful insights and transferable skills. Reflection or debriefing is also essential, without it, the activity remains just an event or task, not a learning experience.

Beyond Slides: Designing Truly Experiential Learning Learning today needs more than slides and speeches...it needs experiences that stick. This digital asset dives into the art and science of experiential learning: what it is, why it matters, and how to design sessions that are immersive, reflective, and transformative. Inside, you’ll find: Creative techniques using simple resources like Lego, ropes, and even safety pins to spark insight. Benefits of experiential learning and why it beats traditional methods for engagement and retention. Key distinctions between participatory and experiential learning—so you design for depth, not just interaction. Common challenges (like time limits, large groups, and authentic sharing) and practical solutions to overcome them. Tools and frameworks, including the EXPERIENCE model, to make learning purposeful and actionable. This isn’t just theory it’s a toolkit for turning every session into a space where participants don’t just learn, they live the learning. A refreshing perspective on learning design...The emphasis on moving beyond slides and speeches to create truly immersive and experiential sessions is exactly what today’s learners need. I love how this digital asset not only explains the ‘why’ behind experiential learning, but also provides practical, creative techniques and frameworks that anyone can use—regardless of resources. The focus on real challenges and actionable solutions makes it a valuable toolkit for facilitators who want to ensure participants don’t just absorb information, but actually live the learning.

Happy Monday! This week, let's focus on designing learning experiences that go beyond just content, using a combination of empathy, evidence-based strategies, and a clear understanding of learner needs. Remember, great instructional design is about solving a problem and creating a clear path to success, so start your week by asking "What problem are we solving?" and "How can we make this learning stick?". Design your week with intention. Center on the learner: Just like in course design, start by understanding the "learner's" needs—which in this case is you! How can you best approach your tasks to feel less stressed and more accomplished this week? Build with purpose: Every task, big or small, is a step forward. Break down large projects into smaller, manageable steps. Each completed task is a small win that builds momentum and confidence. Remember your "why": Keep your goals in mind. What is the ultimate impact you want to make? Connecting your daily actions to the bigger picture can make a challenging week feel more meaningful. Embrace the process: Growth isn't always a straight line. Embrace the iterative nature of learning and work. Some tasks will go smoothly, and others will require refinement. That's all part of the valuable learning process. #InstructionalDesign #MondayMotivation #LearningAndDevelopment #CareerGrowth #EdTech

Is Your Learning and Development Fun? At Elite Training Innovations, we believe learning should be powerful — and FUN. Fun isn’t a distraction from learning. It’s the spark that makes it unforgettable. • When people laugh, play, and engage, they don’t just listen — they lean in. • Fun lowers resistance, builds connection, and fuels curiosity. • And curious learners retain more, try more, and achieve more. Our interactive learning experiences are intentionally designed to be fun and turn training into energy, connection, and lasting impact. • A study by Association for Talent Development (ATD) found that interactive training methods can increase retention rates by 75% compared to traditional methods. • SafetyCulture Training reports that gamification outperforms traditional recognition methods by 100% to 150% in some contexts (i.e., badges, leaderboards, gamified recognition > traditional recognition). • A study conducted by Engageli in 2024 shows learners using active (participatory) methods retained 93.5% of information versus only 79% for passive learners. We just love FUN learning at Elite Training Innovations, LLC. Because when learning is fun, it sticks. When it sticks, it transforms. Let’s have some fun together. #EliteTrainingInnovations #LearningAndDevelopment #InteractiveLearning #FunAtWork #LearningThatSticks #TalentDevelopment #SalesEnablement #FutureOfWork #Engagement #LifelongLearning #HanoverLearning

Live Learning vs Recorded Lectures - What Really Works for Mentorship and Continued Learning? Over the years, I’ve received numerous invitations from law schools, corporates, edtech platforms, and professionals - all seeking mentoring, training, or guidance sessions, either at an individual or team level. While I genuinely appreciate the intent and the growing emphasis on structured learning, I’ve come to realise something important about how learning is delivered. My personal preference has always been tilted toward live, interactive sessions - ideally in physical mode. There’s something organic about real-time exchanges - the energy of a discussion, the back-and-forth of questions, and the instant connection between mentor and mentee. Every participant brings their own context, curiosity, and learning pace - and that’s what makes a live session dynamic and meaningful. By contrast, recorded or pre-scripted online lectures often tend to feel like one-way broadcasts. They may be convenient, scalable, and time-efficient, but the personal touch and immediacy of interaction often get lost. Without the chance to question, debate, or reflect in the moment, the learning experience can become mechanical - sometimes even monotonous. That said, technology has certainly expanded access and flexibility. Many learners thrive in asynchronous formats and revisit recorded content at their own pace. Yet, when it comes to personal mentoring or continuing professional education, I wonder - 👉 Can true engagement happen without live interaction? 👉 Can empathy, spontaneity, and motivation be replicated through a screen? 👉 Or can recorded formats evolve enough to bridge this human gap? I’d love to hear your perspectives - whether you’ve been a mentor, a trainer, or a learner as to what works best for you - live, interactive learning or recorded, self-paced sessions? And why? Let’s get a conversation going - maybe the answer lies somewhere in between. #Mentorship #Learning #ProfessionalDevelopment #EdTech #ContinuousLearning #Upskilling #LiveLearning
