Leadership Discussion: Career Choices and Deep Work Strategies

This title was summarized by AI from the post below.

We had a really good https://rebelai.co.uk/ group call to dig into 3 important leadership topics - what's been giving & draining energy recently, what are the 'right' career choices we need to make and what strategies enable meaningful deep work? The opener session lets my remote members get to know each other better and it set up the discussion around 'good choices' for our careers. We reflected on 'if we're at the end of our career, looking back, what choices were Good and which were Not So Useful'. This led us to consider - where are we now? Given the 'Good Choices' our future self saw us making, how do we get to there? There was much food for thought. A desire to take more career risks, to market oneself and to engage by giving back with public talks came up frequently and hopefully I can help move a few members forwards on this. We then dug into the here and now - swimming in a sea of distractions, bombarded by new high high high priority demands and experiencing FOMO around the latest agentic developments...how do we make time to focus on deep meaningful work? Without this, you can't make the right choices that ultimately move the needle. Steve Yegge's recent reflection on The AI Vampire came up https://lnkd.in/eFj56aaj along with 'turning off notifications' and carving out consistent time to quietly work on the important topics. Going slower, taking a breath and making sensible decisions was the key observation. You can't lead if you can't think clearly. "Tiny Experiments" (https://nesslabs.com/book) was discussed as a good resource for continuously experimenting (learning, discarding, iterating) rather than getting trapped in activities that ultimately don't yield value. As every, it was a great session with lots to think on. If joining a private safe space of switched on data science leaders could help you make better decisions, send me a message.
