How to Prioritize Time for Achieving Dreams

Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.

Summary

Prioritizing time for achieving dreams means carefully organizing your day and focusing on what matters most to reach your personal or professional goals. It’s about making conscious decisions to use your limited time in ways that support your ambitions, rather than simply being busy.

  • Clarify your goals: Spend time writing down what you truly want to accomplish and keep these goals visible so you stay motivated and on track.
  • Set boundaries: Protect time for important activities by saying no to distractions and defining clear limits between work, personal life, and obligations.
  • Review and adjust: Regularly check your schedule and priorities, making changes as needed to stay aligned with your bigger dreams and avoid defaulting to routine tasks.

The entrepreneur's journey is often a whirlwind of tasks, opportunities, and challenges. But what separates the truly successful from the rest? I've had the privilege of speaking with hundreds of entrepreneurs, and one common thread emerges: effective prioritization. Here's what I've learned: 1. The 80/20 Rule Reigns Supreme Focus on the 20% of tasks that drive 80% of your results. Ruthlessly cut the rest. 2. Time-Block Like a Boss Successful entrepreneurs guard their time fiercely. They use time-blocking to ensure high-priority tasks get undivided attention. 3. Embrace the Power of No Say no to good opportunities so you can say yes to great ones. Your time is finite; spend it wisely. 4. Delegate, but Don't Ignore Learn to let go of tasks that don't require your unique skills. But remember, delegation isn't about washing your hands of responsibility. 5. Regular Strategic Reviews Set aside time weekly to assess your priorities. What's working? What's not? Be willing to pivot. 6. Health is Wealth Top performers prioritize sleep, exercise, and mental health. They know personal well-being fuels professional success. 7. Leverage Technology Use tools to automate repetitive tasks and streamline workflows. But don't let tech become a distraction. 8. Focus on Impact, Not Activity Busy ≠ Productive. Always ask: "Is this moving the needle on my most important goals?" 9. Learn to Batch Group similar tasks together. Context switching is the enemy of efficiency. 10. Start with Why Always tie your priorities back to your core mission and values. If it doesn't align, it doesn't belong on your list. Remember, prioritization isn't about doing more. It's about doing what matters most. What's your top prioritization strategy?

“No time” is simply another way of saying “Not a priority” - Have you heard this one? Well, maybe we should stop guilt-tripping others with this statement. “Hold on, hold on Jevon, I’ve heard you say this one yourself too.” I know 😅😅 But look, I’ve been reflecting alot; The people who say they have no time… Things they say they have no time for… And something feels off. :::::: Which 9-6 employee doesn’t want to prioritize health, friends and family, interests, personal growth and passions? We want it all. And more. And maybe THAT is the problem. When there’s so much we want out of life, we don’t know HOW to prioritize. How much of my 24 hours a day do I spend sleeping? Working? Gaming? How do I decide? Analysis paralysis is very real - the overwhelm that comes from overthinking and over-analysing the situation. When that happens, we default to doing more of what we are already made to do. And in the case of 9-6 employees, that’s work. :::::: → The silver lining? There is a way through. Slightly more than a year ago, I was that person. Dissatisfied with my job, disengaged in everything I was doing, Perpetually seeking a new high that I never found, Yet fundamentally paralysed from seeking my priorities in life. Today, I have → Less anger → More positivity → A regular workout routine → A writing routine that excites me → Newfound appreciation for the workplace → A more deliberate relationship with family and kids Much of it, I attribute to a 3-step framework that served me well. Maybe it will help you too. Step 1: Awareness Do you even know what you want in life? In the next 1 year, or 5? Put pen to paper, write it down. Have that set up as a desktop background to remind ourselves from time to time. Often we get distracted from our goals when they are not top of mind. Step 2: Understand your energy What are the activities that energize us? Reading? Socializing? Learning something new? Working out? Volunteering? If you can’t find anything today, dig further into your memories. As a kid, did you enjoy a good book? A walk in the park? Find those activities, And PRIORITIZE them. When we prioritize and do what gives us energy, it fills our inner cup. When the inner cup overflows, we are then able to pour into all other aspects of work and life without feeling empty afterwards. Step 3: Set time and protect it When we identify the activities that give us energy, be intentional in setting time for it. “1/2 hour before work each day to read.” “An hour on a Sat morning to hit a workout.” Start small, but be consistent with the time set aside. Then, protect it by finding allies and advocates. Have your colleagues, friends and families be accountability partners. Share your goals with them, and allow them to protect it for you. :::::: The best part? When you start feeling good, you find energy to do more of what makes you feel good. And perhaps, that’s how we get there. What do you think? #energy

Sometimes I look back at my time on active duty in the Air Force and wonder how I got everything done . . . how did I get kids to soccer, stay credible in the airplane, do laundry and grocery shopping, and focus on my role as a commander and leader. The reality is that there were often times throughout my career where I felt overwhelmed by multiple competing priorities . . . there just didn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get it all done. The only way I could keep my head above water was to get serious and deliberate about prioritizing. I didn’t always get this right (in fact, many times I did not), but here are a few ideas that can help you prioritize and make the most of your time: 1️⃣ Identify Your Goals/Priorities: Clearly define your objectives to focus on tasks that align with your priorities. 2️⃣ Prioritize Tasks: Conduct a thorough analysis of your daily tasks. Determine which tasks are urgent and important, and focus on completing those first. (I didn’t know about the Eisenhower Matrix then, but I find it highly effective now for prioritizing my tasks.) 3️⃣ Delegate Responsibilities: Trust others to handle tasks not directly related to your core responsibilities, freeing up time for priorities. 4️⃣ Set Realistic Deadlines: Break down larger tasks into smaller steps with achievable deadlines to maintain steady progress. Micro/quick wins are also nice. (I personally enjoy crossing items off of my to-do list.) 5️⃣ Learn to Say No: Be selective about new commitments to avoid overloading your schedule (sometimes easier said than done, and it’s helpful to have an accountability partner on this). 6️⃣ Block your Schedule: Consider setting aside specific blocks in your schedule for strategic thinking. Creating this space ensures that you are actively working toward your goals and objectives and not just getting bogged down in the weeds. 7️⃣ Review and Adjust: Regularly reassess your schedule and priorities to ensure they align with your goals, adjusting as needed. (I use a high-tech sticky note and review/re-write at the end of each day). Whether you’re a business professional, military member, entrepreneur, or student, effective time management is key to maintaining productivity and reducing stress. #LeadWithCourage ----- 🛩️ About me: I’m Kim “KC” Campbell, a retired Air Force Colonel, fighter pilot, author, and keynote speaker. "I don't have time." Yes, you do. You're more than familiar with the daily grind. Each day feels like a relentless spin on the hamster wheel, with your career's demands tightening their grip around your health, relationships, and peace of mind. Every morning, it's the same routine. The alarm blares, and instantly, you're mentally scrolling through your endless to-do list. Before the day has even started, you're already in overdrive. But let's hit pause for a moment. When was the last time you asked yourself, "WHY am I doing this?" The harsh reality is you've been trading your well-being for a hollow version of success that feels more like a prison than a reward. Imagine, for a moment, being 80 years old and reflecting on your life, only to realize...you never truly lived. That's the haunting cost of your relentless "too busy" mantra. Here's the good news: It's not too late to change the narrative. You can transform "I don't have time" to "I make time for what's important." Here's your blueprint for change: 1. 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. Dedicate 1 week to track every moment. 2. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼. Use the Eisenhower Matrix (determine urgent vs important.) 3. 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼. Alignment with goals = keep. Everything else = discard. 4. 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲. Use your resources and the power of technology. 5. 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. Define clear limits for your work and personal life. Your action plan to freedom: 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭: Kickstart your time audit. Every minute counts. 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮: Reflect and strategize. Cut out time-wasters. 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟯: Practice saying No. Enjoy feeling lighter. 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟰: Firmly set your boundaries. 𝗢𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴: Refine and adapt. Soon, you'll notice the shift. Morning runs, family dinners, and pursuing hobbies will no longer be just wishes. They'll become your new reality. This journey isn't only about reclaiming time. It's about crafting a life filled with moments that matter most to you. Ready to break free?

If you’re a programmer with a full-time job and a startup dream, time is your biggest enemy. You finish work exhausted, open your laptop with good intentions, and then... Nothing happens. Too many ideas. Too little time. I’ve been there. I used to jump between ten projects, convinced I just needed more hours. The truth? I didn’t need more time. I needed focus. Here’s how I finally learned to choose what to build each quarter, even with just 30 minutes to 2 hours a day. The Real Problem: Endless Options, Limited Energy AI tools make it easier than ever to start building, but they also make it easier to get lost. One day it’s an AI note app, the next it’s a productivity bot. You start fast, but never finish. Here’s why most side builders stall out: - They chase too many ideas. - They don’t define what “done” looks like. - They pick something exciting, not meaningful. - They don’t plan around their real life, fatigue, family, work. But clarity fixes all of that. Step 1: Brain Dump Everything List every idea, every feature, every dream. Don’t judge. Get it out of your head and onto paper. Then ask: If I could build only one thing in the next 12 weeks, what would have the biggest impact? Step 2: Pick One or Two Goals Use this filter: - Excitement: Would I still want to build this when I’m tired? - Impact: Will it move me closer to freedom or income? - Urgency: Can this wait another quarter? - Feasibility: Can I realistically complete this task in 12 weeks with 1 hour of work per day? For me, that meant: - Build an Insight Engine at my 9-5 job - Grow Sucana to 10–50 paid users - Grow my YouTube channel Step 3: Define Your Why and Plan for Blockers Your “why” keeps you coding when motivation fades. Your blockers, distractions, new tools, and long days. When you only have 1 hour a day, the right focus is everything. Because building your dream isn’t about finding time, it’s about choosing what deserves it.

HOW TO PRIORITIZE LIKE A PRO SO YOU CAN CRUSH YOUR GOALS As a single mother of 3 & solopreneur, I had to learn to prioritize well or be crushed by the massive weight of responsibilities. Sometimes it felt like Sophie’s Choice, d*mned if I do, d*mned if I don’t. I mean how do you decide if you pay for the field trip or pay the water bill? You think I’m kidding? My water got shut off. You see me now on top of the world, but it took me a decade of feast or famine, sleepless nights, financial roller coasters, shattered dreams, blood, sweat, and f*cking tears to get here. I learned so many things the hard way, and prioritization was one of them. Over time, I mastered strategies for effective prioritization, and now it’s second nature to me. I rarely have to go through these steps, because it’s part of who I am. And I help my clients do the same thing. I teach them proven high performance strategies and over time the strategies become high performance habits that enable my clients to rise to the top of their industries and absolutely obliterate their goals. Here’s how you can do the same. To PRIORITIZE LIKE A PRO, you must: 🎯IDENTIFY YOUR UNIQUE ABILITIES: What activities energize & fulfill me? Where do I consistently excel? What tasks do others choose me for? 🎯DETERMINE WHAT MATTERS MOST: Does this align with my core values & long-term goals? Will this significantly impact my success or the success of my team? Is this task urgent or simply an interruption? 🎯SET CLEARLY OBJECTIVES :Define specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, & time-bound (SMART) goals. Break them down into manageable daily tasks. 🎯USE THE IMPACT/EFFORT MATRIX:  High Impact/Low Effort: Prioritize these first. High Impact/High Effort: Next, tackle these significant but demanding tasks. Low Impact/Low Effort: Handle these in spare time. Low Impact/High Effort: Delegate these 🎯ADOPT THE 80/20 PRINCIPLE: Focus on the 20% of tasks that produce 80% of your results. 🎯IMPLEMENT TIME BLOCKS: Allocate specific time blocks for your most important tasks, minimizing distractions to reach completion. 🎯DELEGATE: Delegate tasks outside your unique abilities or that others can handle. 🎯REVIEW & REFINE: Set aside time weekly to review your progress and adjust priorities. 🎯 SAY NO: Protect your time by evaluating new opportunities against your goals. Politely decline or negotiate if they don’t align. By focusing on what matters most & aligning your tasks with your unique strengths as well as your deepest values, effective prioritization will transform your life. Today is the day to start prioritizing effectively & embrace your journey toward unparalleled success! If not now, when? #business #success #highperformance

Desi Atomic Habit Tip #22: Prioritize What Truly Matters "Jeevan mein safalta wahi milti hai jo prathmikta ke saath kaam karein." (Success comes to those who work with clear priorities.) In a world overflowing with distractions, it’s easy to feel busy but unproductive. True progress happens when we focus on what truly matters. Learning to prioritize is not just a skill—it’s a habit that can transform your life. Here’s how you can develop the habit of prioritization: ✅ Identify Your Top 3 Tasks: Each day, choose three tasks that align with your long-term goals. Focus your energy there first. ✅ Say No to Distractions: Whether it’s unnecessary meetings, endless scrolling, or low-priority tasks, learn to say no so you can say yes to what counts. ✅ Use the Eisenhower Matrix: Categorize tasks into four quadrants: urgent-important, important-not urgent, urgent-not important, and neither. Spend time on what’s important, not just what’s urgent. ✅ Review Weekly: Set aside time at the end of each week to reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and how to improve your focus moving forward. How Prioritization Has Shaped My Journey: 👉 It’s helped me eliminate unnecessary stress by focusing only on tasks that matter. 👉 By saying no to distractions, I’ve made space for deeper, more meaningful work. 👉 Weekly reviews have allowed me to realign my efforts with my goals consistently. This Week’s Challenge: Start each morning by identifying your top three priorities for the day. Let go of everything else and focus on those. See how much more impactful your days become. Remember, success isn’t about doing everything—it’s about doing the right things. 🌱 #DesiAtomicHabits #FocusOnWhatMatters #MindfulSuccess #DailyPriorities #ThursdayThoughts

Looking for a way to finish strong this year? Start simple. Begin with what you truly want to do most, set goals and commit to a plan. I like to look at the final quarter of each year as a time to get very strategic about what I want to achieve, and then set a simple plan to get there. This takes time and effort. It's really hard. It’s not nearly as fun as socializing or dreaming about that big idea. To achieve great things, you must be willing to “do the work.” Whenever you hear this very important phrase, know that “the work” first involves a foundation of values and then planning. This must come before anything else! If you just jump in without direction, you may succeed at first, but sooner or later you’ll fail. It’s not sustainable. Here are three bold ideas. I hope they give you the courage and confidence to put together your own resolutions in an effort to live the life you truly want. Get started, which all begins with... 1. Find a way What’s holding you back right now from achieving your biggest goal? If the answer to your question is simply, “time,” then allow me to kindly point out you’re making an excuse. You have to find a way. This comes back to prioritization and goal planning around what is truly most important to you. Start by trimming time off unproductive activities like watching TV or spending minute-after-minute on your smartphone. Spend time working on your goal. Build it into your calendar. Find a way. 2. Build on what you’ve started Look back at what you’ve already accomplished this year. One of the best ways to find self-motivation and positivity is to visualizing your achievements. I’m willing to bet you’ve already produced some awesome work. I’m willing to bet you’ve built a foundation of skills, experiences and achievements that you’re truly proud of. Start consolidating those gains! Think of all the time you've spent working toward big goals already. Build on those things. Don’t stop now. KEEP GOING! 3. Take a bold chance Remember how I talked about having so many great ideas, but needing to prioritize? That’s very important, though it shouldn’t hold you back from taking a bold chance. For any of you considering a bold move in your career, you know there’s so much unknown in the market. But that should never stop you from taking a bold chance and following something you love, provided it is in alignment with your talents, skills and experience. Be willing to take a bold chance when there’s no safety net there. Take a leap of faith when you have a great idea you believe in, and a well hashed out game plan for achieving your goal. Good luck!! #goals #success #leadership #motivation #personaldevelopment

People often ask me, "How did you build your company while pursuing a full-time PhD?" My secret? Learning to prioritize and manage my time effectively. Initially, I worked 12-hour days, 7 days a week, with average productivity. But I soon realized I was speeding down the wrong road. Giving my best to my boss meant giving my leftovers to my true passions! I never took a priority management course, but my mentors taught me how to build a global business while balancing work and family. I solidified my priorities, cut out non-essentials, and learned to: - Collaborate to accelerate my work - Delegate tasks to others - Eliminate non-value-added work The results? - Finished my PhD in 5 years with 4 publications, 1 patent, and 2 internships - Ran my startup successfully - Maintained a long-distance relationship Mentorship, priority management, and people skills can skyrocket your productivity! Time is the one non-renewable resource we all have. Studies show that leaders who effectively manage time are 60% more likely to achieve business goals. In the early days, I used to be buried in work, struggling to catch up. Time felt like sand slipping through my fingers. Here’s how I reclaimed my time as a founder of a personal branding agency with five critical steps: 1. Ruthless Prioritization: Focused only on high-impact tasks that aligned with long-term goals, letting go of non-essentials. 2. Delegation: Empowered my team to handle more, freeing up my time for strategic decisions. 3. Tech Tools: Leveraged automation and productivity tools to streamline operations. 4. Boundary-Setting: Set firm limits on my availability, protecting time for what matters most. 5. Scheduling Downtime: Planned regular breaks to recharge, ensuring sustained productivity.
