35mm Prequel Trilogy Trailers (Czech)

description

You may recall, a few months ago, I posted a scan of an American 35mm Trailer reel for The Phantom Menace. Well, a friend of mine in The Czech Republic just sent me a scan of the Czech language version of a Phantom Menace Trailer. And that’s not all, he kindly included scans of the entire prequel Trilogy. Who knows, maybe it’s better in Czech?

Star Wars The Phantom Menace 35mm Trailer in 4K

Star Wars Phantom Menace Trailer B in 4K from 35mm film reel

Star Wars The Phantom Menace Trailer B “She Stands Alone” in 4K. From an original 35mm (FLAT) film Reel, sent to Cinemas in the USA in 1999. Scanned by Q-branch.

I can’t tell you how excited I was by these trailers in 1999. I suppose I was as excited by the trailers as I was disappointed by the final film. This trailer is still pretty good, and it’s remarkable how, on real film, the CGI seems much less shiny, plastic and fake than it looks on DVD and blu-ray.

The 108 page rebuttal to Mr. Plinkett’s Phantom Menace review

It took me a while to find this, as most of the download links are now dead, but I’m glad I did. After reading it, I still think Mr. Plinkett (Mike Stoklasa) has the right of it. The author of this whiny, often angry, rebuttal (who calls himself Jim Raynor – which could be his real name, but is probably taken from the StarCraft computer game) makes very few valid points that can be backed up by evidence actually IN the movie. Sure, he speculates on reasons why something happens the way it does, but it is only that, speculation and assumption. Far too many of his responses begin with the words, “Perhaps”, “Maybe”, “Probably” or “The clear implication is…” For example, on page 37, this is his explanation for why the Jedi hold their breath and don’t immediately start looking for a way out when the poisonous gas starts to enter the room: read more

Mr. Plinkett’s Review of The Phantom Menace is Awesome

Forgive me for being a little late to this party, but I only just discovered these, and I figured that if I hadn’t seen them yet then a lot of other people probably haven’t either. While some viewers may be offended by the bad language and many more by the pizza roll loving serial killer subplot schtick, there is no denying that Mr. Plinket’s review of what went wrong in The Phantom Menace is right on the money, and brilliantly illustrated with examples from all 6 movies and behind the scenes footage: read more

Star Wars Connections with C3P0 and R2D2

This introduction to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Special Edition was recorded on Thursday, April 25th 2002 at 8 pm from a local Fox TV station in the US by “videoholic” Ray Glasser. Part of the Star Wars 25th anniversary celebration, the segment runs approximately 5 minutes. In it, C3P0 and R2D2 recap some of the events of the Star Wars saga, bridging the gap between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy by explaining how Jango Fett’s young son grew up to become the fan favorite villain, Boba Fett. Despite captivating the Ewoks with his tale in Return of the Jedi (complete with sound effects), poor scripting here leaves C3P0 living up to what he originally told Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: “I’m not much more than an interpreter and not very good at telling stories. Well, not at making them interesting, anyway.” read more

REVENGE OF THE PC

Last month we followed the ups and downs of Star Wars gaming as it grew out of the 8-bit home computer market and rode the wave of console gaming into the mid-90s.

In this final chapter, Dan Whitehead picks up the story as the home PC went from being a fancy-pants calculator and started to make its mark as a games machine, right up to the release of the Star Wars prequel movies…

While the Star Wars platform games had been making waves on the NES and SNES, the software division of George Lucas’ empire, LucasArts, had been making something of a name for itself on the PC with games outside of the realms of Jedi and droids. read more

Star Wars Magazine Espana Issue 05

The fifth issue of Star Wars Magazine Espana is dated January/February 2002 and with the release of Episode II: El Ataque De Los Clones only a few months away it is no surprise that Attack of the Clones is the main focus of this edition. There is also a nice recap of Episode I: The Phantom Menace to refresh your memory before you see the next movie, and an interview with Sound man, Ben Burtt. The supplement this month was about Kevin Smith, and this time we do have it.
