SBI PO Exam Notification 2022

SBI PO examination was conducted by the State Bank of India for the selection of Probationary Officers (PO) posts and the syllabus and pattern for the exams are released with the official notification of the SBI PO exam. The selection process is comprised of 3 Phases: 

• Phase-I; Preliminary exam
• Phase-II; Mains Exam and
• Phase-III; Interview and Group Exercises

Candidates who are shortlisted after Phase-I will have to appear for Phase II and like-wise, candidates who are shortlisted after Phase II will be subsequently called for Phase III.

The patterns and marks for each of the phases are different. Whereas the Preliminary exam is of qualifying in nature and the score is not counted for the final merit list, based on the marks secured in the Main exam, they will be called for phase III, and the total score obtained in Phase II and Phase III sum up to produce the final result for selection.

Eligibility Criteria for SBI PO Exam 2022

A. Education Qualification:

Graduation in any discipline from a University is recognized by the Govt. Of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

B. Age:

The minimum age of a candidate will not be less than 21 years, and the maximum age will not be more than 30 years (Age must be calculated according to a particular date mentioned in the official notification of the SBI PO exam 2022).

Relaxation of age:

• 3 years for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates
• 5 years for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates

C. Nationality / Citizenship:

The candidate must be either – 

• A Citizen of India or
• A subject of Nepal or
• A subject of Bhutan or
• A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
• A person of Indian origin and he/she has migrated from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

The Exam Pattern of Various Stages of the SBI PO Exam

The section of English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability are found in both Prelims and Main exams. However, the level of difficulty and distribution of marks for the Prelims and Mains exam is different.

C. Interview: 

Based on the score obtained in the Main examination, candidates will be shortlisted, and subsequently be called for an interview, conducted by the SBI. Because of the Social Distancing and safety measures necessitated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Phase III may comprise:

• Interview only (carries 50 marks); or
• Interview (carries 30 marks) & Group Exercises (carries 20 marks).

Candidates will have to score minimum qualifying marks in Phase III to be considered for final selection and the minimum qualifying marks will be decided by the SBI. In the Group Exercises phase, there would be two parts, each carrying 10 marks:

1. Group Discussion (10 Marks)
2. Prioritization activity (10 Marks)

D. Scores Counting Methods in Different Stages of Exam:

• Penalty for wrong answers applies to both the Preliminary exam and the Online mode of the Main examination. For each wrong question is given by the candidate one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty. If a question is left unanswered, there will be no penalty for that particular question.
• The score obtained by giving a correct answer by each of the candidates of different sessions (if held) will be normalized using the equi-percentile method. Scores up to two decimal points shall be taken for calculations.
• The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. The marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in Phase III for preparing the final merit list.
• In the final merit list, the candidates are shortlisted based on the combined final score obtained by the candidates in Phase-II and Phase-III; the weightage (ratio) of Phase-II and Phase-III will be 75:25 respectively.

Previous Years Official Cut-off Scores of SBI PO Exams:

Each candidate will be required to obtain a minimum score in each section of tests of the Main examination and also a minimum total score to be considered to be shortlisted for an interview. Depending on the number of vacancies available for the post of Probationary Officers (PO), cut-offs will be decided and candidates will be shortlisted for the final merit list.
