Reasons For Hope
Leading think tank Ember has a great new report underscoring just how fast progress has become in the global electrotech revolution. Around the world, developing countries are skyrocketing on key metrics like solar and wind as % of generation, battery sales, EV sales as % of car sales, and electrification itself (the percentage of total energy demand met with electrons as opposed to combustion). The leapfrog effect is common, with nations like Morocco, Kenya, Namibia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Nepal overtaking the United States on one or more of these metrics.
Many countries have a discrepancy in statistics between China’s export data on solar panels and the buyer country’s tracking of solar installations. Around the world, from Australia to Kenya and Poland to Pakistan, it now looks like people are buying and installing gigawatts more solar than their governments realize they are! America is missing out on the first wave of unprecedented access to local clean reliable electricity.
It’s now cheaper to build new solar than fossil fuels in terms of megawatt-hours per year delivered even in terms of upfront capital costs — that is to say, excluding the fact that with solar you get all the fuel for free going forward and with fossil fuels you keep paying forever!
As fuel shortages bite down hard around the world due to the chaos left by a war of whim in the Middle East, early anecdotal evidence of a great acceleration in the already-rapid global electrotech revolution is already coming in thick and fast. EV sales are breaking records worldwide. The UK recorded record-high wind plus solar generation in March 2026, saving over one billion pounds in avoided fossil gas imports. Governments from Brazil to Spain to Indonesia are quickly moving forward their renewables build-out plans, and Reuters reports that Vietnam just canceled a planned LNG plant in favor of more renewables.
The multitudes of as-yet-unbuilt clean energy projects being blocked by the White House’s insane ideological attacks represent a cornucopia of economic opportunity, abundant energy, and environmental benefits that are being thrown away. Congress must stand up for American industry and pass the FREEDOM Act, a new bipartisan permitting reform bill that includes extremely badly needed new legal protections to prevent the President abusing executive powers to cancel or pause energy projects.
Tell Congress to unleash American clean energy!
