Open Community Experience has opened with a keynote from Mike Milinkovich and a clear message: “OCX is our opportunity to connect. This week is a celebration of our projects and the people who make these projects real.” From OpenHW Foundation to the rapid growth of the Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle, the keynote has highlighted where the Eclipse Foundation is heading and where open source is gaining momentum. Some key moments: 🔹 Open Regulatory Compliance (ORC), focused on the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and on building up an open source community response to the new regulations. “And for anyone looking for answers, check out the #FAQ”. 🔹 Open VSX Managed Registry launch. “This is a big moment for open source.” With AWS, Google, and Cursor on board, this pushes forward a sustainable model for open tooling ecosystems. “We’re the leaders in figuring out a sustainable business model to support these registries.” 🔹 Theia & AI. Today, we are sharing our newest report, "Licensing Best Practices for Sharing Scientific Data", which extends the open data practices originally designed for climate data in our 2023 report "Recommended Best Practices for the Better Sharing of Climate Data" to other disciplines. By encouraging adoption alongside those already maximizing open access to publicly funded data, our recommendations provide a baseline for globally interoperable and practical licensing and attribution practices. They make open data easier to access, share, and reuse with clear guidance and actionable steps. Consistent licensing reduces legal uncertainty, improves interoperability, and enables faster discovery and collaboration. Adopting these practices strengthens trust, transparency, and global scientific cooperation. I am so stoked to work with and learn from Duane O'Brien as we tackle this next chapter together! This is a pivotal moment for the next phase of Open Source Initiative (OSI) and for the broader Open Source ecosystem. The challenges ahead require steady stewardship, thoughtful collaboration with careful listening, transparent processes that bring together a wide range of perspectives, and a shared commitment to the principles that have sustained Open Source for decades. I’m endlessly grateful to Deborah Bryant for her leadership during this transition(she's a joy to work alongside, if you were ever so lucky, you know), and to the community for its continued engagement and support.

I am thrilled to announce my new role as the Executive Director of the Open Source Initiative (OSI). I'm grateful to the board for their trust, and I look forward to serving the community and our partners as I lead one of the fundamental institutions of the open source ecosystem.
