A bomb threat was reported at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday inside Building 510 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, according to the shipyard.
Shipyard law enforcement was immediately notified and detained a suspect, the shipyard said in a Facebook post. Employees working inside Building 510 were evacuated following the threat.
Other personnel in the shipyard’s industrial area were instructed to shelter in place while the situation was investigated. The shipyard did not immediately provide additional details about the suspect or the nature of the threat.
Building 510 is part of the shipyard’s electronics facilities. According to the shipyard’s historical records, construction on the building began in 1953 and it opened in 1956.
