From the State Journal-Register:
Durbin not ready to endorse Blagojevich
Last Updated 5/23/2005 11:49:37 AM
CHICAGO - U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Springfield, today did not discourage fellow Democrats from taking on controversy-plagued Gov. Rod Blagojevich in next year's primary election and said he's not endorsing the incumbent at this point.
"Anyone can run for any office," Durbin said at an unrelated news conference in Chicago. "I'm not going to say what's good or bad for the party. I want to make sure that the voters in Illinois have good candidates to vote for."
Asked if he'll endorse Blagojevich, who's expected to run for a second term in 2006, Durbin replied: "I'm not making any endorsement today. What I've said in the past is I've worked with him, I'm looking forward to working with him in the future."

Durbin really disapointed me today. I am sure the press put him in an awkward position and pushed hard for an answer (whats new!) but I would have liked to see him be more supportive of Blagojevich.
Why would Durbin need to be supportive of Blagojevich??
Wow, Dick Durbin does a Ray LaHood imitation!
Maybe DD's seen the ISRA ruling the legislature & so he figures he needs to run for governor. *^^*
Another IL incumbent that prefers to overachieve at disappointing fellow members of his political party.
Durbin = My Hero
Senator Durbin did the right thing by distancing himself from the Governor. It is best that he take this stand now, as it sends a clear message that Blagojevich cannot depend on Downstate to bail him out in 2006. It also puts the pressure on certain individuals (Lisa Madigan and Pat Quinn) to make up their minds and do so quickly.

Not a Rod fan. However, I believe people are overthinking this one. This is pure Dick Durbin -- trying to sway with the wind and have it both ways. His answer gives him maximum flexibility to pivot either way. Just like abortion. Just like O'Hare. Everyone saw what happened to those who stuck by George Ryan. The Dems are watching son of George Ryan develop before their eyes and they already know the drill. Bail!
Mell and Dominic Longo control Durbin and he is brainwashed because Frankie C wants to make money in a dump
Has Obama endorsed Blago?
I am a democratic precinct committeeman and I serve as a local elected official. I went door to door passing out Obama literature. I worked fundraisers for Durbin. I bleed blue. I wouldn't support Blago for a million dollars. Blago is a whore for jumping in bed with Jesse Jackson. He is a phony for collecting $5k from individual donors the day before he calls for a $2k per donor cap. He shoots his mouth off when he should be sticking his foot in it (read: testicular comment). As far as I am concerned, I would rather have Judy Bar Topinka. My most honest comment is SCREW BLAGO.
Hard to argue with 9:35's logic, and 7:21 makes another (mis-mal-un-)informed comment.
Dan Proft, are you 6:47? Or is it Bill?
It's clear what's going on: Durbin and Tom Hynes have always been this/close. The Hynes' crowd must be making overtures to Durbin for Dan's potential gubernatorial bid. It's either that or Speaker Madigan talking to Durbin about Lisa.
And Durbin, never one to take a strong position in primaries, wants some early wiggle room
I am a proud member of the Democratic Party of Illinois -- and I am quite happy to hear this. :-)
Who's Dick Durbin?
What does Barak think?
