Not so fast
Most of the people who defend Governor Rod Blagojevich in the comments section here accuse his legions of detractors of being Republicans.
But the comments posted below a Daily Kos news item yesterday about the guv's awful poll numbers are mighty eye-opening. Kos runs a very hardcore Democratic blog, but many, if not most, of the comments yesterday were decidedly anti-Blagojevich.
Go check it out, particularly all of you folks who deride the governor's critics as Republicans masquerading as Democrats.

I get a kick out of the Governor's supporters finding Republicans behind every criticism.
If you read the comments closely, you can tell who's a Dem and who's a Repub. And some of the most biting criticism comes from the Democratic commenters.
By attributing all the negative comments to partisan differences, the Governor's supporters show that they just don't get it.
Changing business as usual does not mean ignoring the desires of every single interest group that helped the Governor get elected. It means deciding policy matters on the merits rather than on political or financial gain.
I am just wondering how anyone could be a supporter of the Governors. Aren't we all sick and tired of the corruption and wrong doing. If it looks like corruption, smells like corruption, acts like corruption, it is corruption. I am just hoping to vote for someone honest next time around and I don't care what party they belong too.
I always found it curious that Rod's supporters always assumed critical posts came from Republicans.
I agree with the post above. If there's an honest public official left in this state, I'd vote for that person regardless of which messed up political party they represented.
This corruption must end. This parade of indictments and convictions, while necessary, makes me sick.
Yes, it is certainly time to turn the political etch-a-sketch of Illinois upside-down and give it a very good shake!
I am a plugged in democrat. Everytime when new news comes out on the governor, every democrat I know smiles and says "I told you so." Not one of them says, jesus, we have to help this guy. He's cooked.
I'm showing my age here but when I came to Springfield in the 60's to work for State government, it was refreshing to become part of the Civil Service system because you got your job based on a) your test scores and b) your interview with the agency (that's called merit). No money or political affiliation was needed. You did a good job, got a good perf. eval, got raises, went home to your private life. No campaigning, no kickbacks, no nothing. Then came JRT, who gutted Civil Service and turned it into his own political patronage system. And it's gone downhill from there. Unions came in and God bless them for that becaue everyone in this town would be having to pay kickbacks under the table to keep their jobs if some areas were not unionized. Thompson, Edgar, Ryan, Blago - they are all in it. I'm an independent and would love to vote for an honest man. I thought I was doing so with Blago. However, I voted for Poshard and could not believe he was not elected (then again, it's Illinois). Fooled once, shame on you; fooled twice, shame on me. Blago will not have my vote again and hopefully he will have to pay for his next job the way he is doing with this one. It just makes me sick that Illinois is the laughing stock of the country and no one in this state cares, except perhaps Patrick Fitzgerald. If that's what it takes, more power to Patrick. It's gotta start at the legislature. But the problem is that we can't elect a non-corrupt legislature.
I can't believe no one has caught this yet.
Let's see; Past Gov under indictment for using political workers for campaigns and giving rewards for political work. Many indicted and Daley up to his asshole in gators for using city workers for politica and giving jobs for political work. All US Attorney White Collar Crime Division Cases.
Yet, no one has asked, "where is the US Attorney on the Blago case". Do you think Pat Fitzgerald would have let Dick Devine or Lisa Madigan investigate the hired truck scandal??? I DON'T THINK SO! So why is he letting Ald. Mell's buddys investigate allegation that should, and always do, go to the "G". They can simply take over the case, and why haven't they????
Well, Blago still has Carol Ronen in his corner. In the Belleville press she is quoted as saying Blago is a man of the people, trying to do the people's work, and the Republicans are being mean to him. Another liberal with tunnel vision....why Dems are failing nationally and may, against all predictions, fail in Illinois.
Hey Rich, does the ethics bill expansion to in-laws and other next of kin apply to state licenses, like -- say -- real estate licenses held by spouse of a state officeholder?
There are very few dems in southern illinois that still like the gov. The ones that were given jobs by him and his admin. still defend him occassionally but are starting to fold as well.
I don't know who's using my web name but someone is. I did not post the comment about spouse's with real estate licenses, but I wish I had. I also saw the Tribune article on Patti B. Whoever you are, please, don't perloin my handle. I just got online right now at 11:39 p.m., after spending the evening getting ready for the Highland Games tomorrow. Rich, hopefully you can find out who's using my web name on this blog.
You need to register with blogger. I can't do anything about it.
The first poster is right - the most outraged and disgusted of the people commenting about what a hypocrite the Governor is are Dems who wasted their votes, time and money helping him get elected. I know, I'm one of them!
give me a break. the gov has performed well on typical dem issues. dems should be proud of what has been accomplished, especially in difficult budget times. let's not forget the 30 years of republican tyranny we had previously.
Republicans want Rod.
Vallas or Quinn could win the general
Rod could not
Dems hate Rod from Downstate to machine Chicago

I wouldn’t call myself either party member because I’m fed up with all the corruption. The problem isn’t on only one side, it’s on both sides. I’d rather be involved in the clean up than worrying about how my party is doing. From how things look, both parties are going to have egg on their faces. Oh, there are many good people out there but we have a bunch of bad ones in the wrong place.
