SOUNDBITE (English) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:
"We are joined not only by a fearless champion of human rights and democracy but a member of Parliament. Its almost too delicious to believe my friend that you are here in the rotunda of our great capitol, the centerpiece of our democracy as a elected member of your parliament."
Speaker of the House John Boehner present Daw Aung San Suu Kyi with the Congressional Gold Medal
SOUNDBITE (English) Aung San Suu Kyi:
"This is one of the most moving days of my life to be here in a house undivided, a house joined together to welcome a stranger from a distant land. Yet I do feel myself to be a stranger for I see many familiar faces and faces that are new to me but known to me for what they have done for our country and for our cause."
SOUNDBITE (English) Aung San Suu Kyi:
"I stand here now, strong in the knowledge that I?m among friends who will be with us as we continue with our task of building a nation that offers peace and prosperity and basic human right protected by the rule of law to all who dwell within its realms. This task has been made possible by the reform measures instituted by President Our President, our very young but rapidly maturing legislature and the vast majority of our people are committed to democratic values that will enable us to fulfill our potential and allow us to take our place in the modern world."
