Summit Over and Out 🎉 Yesterday we gathered 1000+ Founders, Investors and Community Members at the Ottakringer Privatbrauerei for the AustrianStartups Summit 2026. This year’s motto: No Risk, No Fun(ds). A whole day to celebrate risk-takers from Austria and beyond, make new connections and learn from each other. And to talk about what’s still missing so more people here take the leap. 🚀 Elisabeth Zehetner sent opening words, and our President Alexander Van der Bellen also sent his greetings. Hannah Wundsam and Markus Raunig officially kicked off the Summit on behalf of AustrianStartups. Then Fedor Holz took the stage with his keynote “Going All In”. Who better to open a day about risk than a former world number one in poker? Michael 'Misha' Kowatschew made his debut as an AustrianStartups board member with a keynote on why failing is part of the game. And Michael Hurnaus gave the closing keynote, “Going All Out: From Exit to Traxit”, telling his Tractive exit story for the first time. In between, role models from across the ecosystem talked about risk from every angle: in panels, masterclasses, side events, meetups and at the startup fair. Thank you Stephanie Cox for hosting the main stage. For some, the Summit started the day before. At the Summit Sprint hackathon, 80 participants took over 42 Vienna for 24 hours of building on challenges from real organizations. The three winning teams got their own Talent Showcase on the main stage. It’s amazing what they did in just 22 hours. Thank you to our hackathon partners (in the comments). And since it’s No Risk, No Fun(ds): 10 startups pitched in the Summit Pitch Competition, moderated by Daniel Cronin, in front of our jury Carina Roth, Benedikt Weissenberger, Laura Raggl and Clark Parsons. Congrats to the AustrianStartups Summit Pitch Master 2026 Lauren Bazley from Proxima Stella and to Sarah Schopper from CALLA REF, the community winner. „Ich kann keine Stütze mehr verschieben.“ Mit diesem Problem hat Julia Reisinger als Statikerin jahrelang gearbeitet. Innen in der Fabrik ändert sich ständig alles. Das Gebäude bleibt starr. Und irgendwann steht die Wand genau dort, wo das Unternehmen wachsen müsste. Heute löst sie genau das mit factorymaker. Ein Modell, das Grundstück, Gebäude und Produktion gemeinsam versteht und in Minuten Planungsvarianten durchrechnet. Sie nennt es Maschinentetris. Was ich aus dem Gespräch mit ihr im Future Weekly Deep Dive mitnehme: - Von der HTL in Tirol über Bauingenieurwesen und Architektur an der TU Wien zur Doktorarbeit. An ein Startup hat sie lange nicht gedacht. Den Anstoß gab ihr Bruder. - Erster Kunde: 1.000 €. Zweiter: 5.000 €. Beide ohne Diskussion. Ein Nein zum Preis hat das Team bis heute nicht gehört. - Die TU Wien hält keine Anteile, es gibt eine Lizenzvereinbarung. Für fast jeden Investor in der Pre-Seed-Runde war das eine der ersten Fragen. - Ihr größtes Learning: Forschung und marktfähiges Produkt trainieren völlig verschiedene Muskeln. Darf ein Investor in zwei direkte Konkurrenten investieren? Im Silicon Valley lautet die Antwort gerade offenbar: ja. Vinod Khosla ist bei Factory und Cognition an Bord, zwei KI-Coding-Startups im direkten Wettbewerb. Als die beiden letzte Woche öffentlich aneinandergeraten, stellt er sich klar auf eine Seite und nennt die andere einen „struggling second tier competitor“. Dort hatte seine Firma im April noch die Runde angeführt. Lange galt im Venture Capital eine ungeschriebene Regel: kein Geld in direkte Konkurrenten des eigenen Portfolios. Im KI-Goldrausch verschwimmt diese Grenze bei manchen. Umso mehr gilt für Founder: Due Diligence geht in beide Richtungen. Darüber spreche ich diese Woche in Future Weekly mit Hannah Wundsam.
