"Health is created through the choices societies make. Investing in sport is a political choice that supports physical activity, improves health, stimulates economies and strengthens communities. By choosing to invest in sport today, we are not only improving health outcomes, we are contributing meaningfully to making a better world for generations to come." Dr. Jane Thornton MD PhD OLY, IOC Director of Health, Medicine and Science The World Health Organization predicts that new cases of preventable non-communicable diseases could cost the global economy USD 27 billion annually between 2020 and 2030. Yet one of the most powerful tools to improve health is already all around us: sport. In her latest IOC opinion piece, Dr. Thornton highlights how sport goes far beyond performance. It encourages physical activity, supports mental well-being, strengthens social connections, and helps build more inclusive and resilient communities. Building a healthier world starts with making sport accessible, safe, and inclusive for all. Read the opinion piece: https://lnkd.in/eUdS8Ywb #Olympics #Health

More than 40 emerging women from Summer and Winter Olympic sports gathered in Lausanne this week for a Women's Leadership Workshop, jointly organised by the IOC and ASOIF. Designed for women at different stages of their leadership journey, the programme focused on building the skills, confidence and networks needed to navigate and lead within sport organisations. During three days, targeted training was provided in leadership identity, influence, strategic communication, negotiation and governance structures through practical exercices, peer learning and real-world leadership scenarios. By supporting more women to access and thrive in leadership positions, sport organisations can strengthen decision-making, improve representation, broaden perspectives and build governance structures that better reflect the communities they serve. Programmes such as this help create the pipeline of leaders needed to drive sustainable and inclusive change across sport. Thank you to all participants and facilitators for their commitment.

The Olympic rings have taken centre stage in Lausanne (Switzerland) with a new set unveiled in front of the Olympic Museum, shining a spotlight on the city’s special place at the heart of the Olympic Movement. The large-scale installation was officially inaugurated this week by the IOC President, Kirsty Coventry, together with representatives of the City of Lausanne and the Canton of Vaud. " The rings embody the universality of the Olympic Movement and the coming together of athletes from around the world. Here, in front of the Olympic Museum, they also remind us of the unique role of the City of Lausanne and the Canton of Vaud, from where the Olympic Movement has brought its values of excellence, respect and friendship to life for more than a century. We look forward to maintaining these ties for many years to come." - IOC President Kirsty Coventry 🔗https://lnkd.in/e3FPP5_u #Olympics © IOC/Greg Martin for the first picture and © Mathilde Imesch – Ville de Lausanne

🌏 Brisbane 2032 has unveiled its Olympic and Paralympic emblems, inspired by Queensland’s character, wildlife and identity. At the heart of the designs are two native Australian cockatoos: a pink cockatoo representing the Olympic Games and a sulphur-crested cockatoo representing the Paralympic Games. The emblems also incorporate the outline of Queensland, the Olympic and Paralympic flames, and a subtle reference to the year 2032. What stands out is how the visual identity blends local culture, natural heritage and iconic Games symbolism into a distinctive mark that is both uniquely Australian and globally recognisable.
