BA site

[edit]

BA Aircraft site: why did you remove all the tags that were literally from the British airways website? JannisGe (talk) 14:06, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

You put some BA on there but there were a whole bunch that shouldn't have been there - see my edit summary. Have a look at WP:BADAIRSOURCE for the sort of site that shouldn't be used as a reference. Essentially anything that's a spotter site / fansite / blog / user-contributed / self-published. I'm happy to talk though any that you're unsure about. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:23, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Starlux

[edit]

I noticed that you reverted my edit because some of the existing citations were inadvertently removed. Would Flightradar24's fleet database be an acceptable source for updated fleet figures, with an access date included?

Unlike user-contributed aircraft databases such as Planespotters, Flightradar24's fleet listings are supported by operational flight-tracking data and updated as aircraft enter service. While not necessarily a direct record of airline deliveries, this provides a useful basis for maintaining current fleet figures.

I'd like to keep the article reasonably up to date while ensuring that the figures are properly sourced and the edits remain neutral. Let me know if you prefer primary sources such as Starlux shareholder meetings.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/airlines/jx-sjx/fleet (this supports both the A350 and A339 entries) Shencypeter (talk) 03:35, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

It's not reliable at all as a source of fleet information. It is a list of aircraft that have flown routes for that airline. It is not a list of aircraft owned by the airline - they could be wet leased. It is not a list of aircraft currently flying for that airline - take Lufthansa as an example, which has just retired its last A340-600. All of their aircraft of that type are listed as in their fleet by flightradar24 - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/airlines/lh-dlh/fleet 10mmsocket (talk) 05:53, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I respect that, but operating fleet with the airlines registration and livery should suffice for passenger facing operations. We don’t have citations for the financial lease arrangements of each aircraft. As of now the old table is four aircraft short of the operation count.
What I’m saying is planespotters is another Wikipedia (user editable) we don’t trust; flightradar is even quoted in accident reports; the fleet count can’t be mangled with unless the operator gets new aircraft registered to them . Shencypeter (talk) 12:03, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) We've already discussed FR24 as a reliable source for airline fleet data at RSN, and it was agreed as unreliable. Danners430 tweaks made 12:24, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
But again - the fleet count is already mangled if retired aircraft aren't taken off as is the case for Lufthansa. If it's true for them it's likely true for other airlines. And when I talk about lease I'm specifically talking about wet lease, which go on FR24 under the airline's flight numbers and thus get counted in the fleet, but don't get counted in the Wikipedia fleet count. Bottom line nobody can be sure that FR24 fleet data is accurate. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:22, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
