Question

[edit]

Hey, I get that you took the references off the anthologies on Vajra Chandrasekera's page because they don't need them. That's fine. All cool. I understood the reasoning. I added back the urls to the books to give them external links.

But I have a question:

I had added references with Anthologies to both Ken Liu's bibliography and Sam Miller's page. Do you want me to go pull the references off and do the same thing? Because I can. I just didn't want to get my head ripped off by a different admin for not adding references.

Thanks, OrbitingJupiter OrbitingJupiter (talk) 16:00, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I am actually not an admin - just a normal editor highly active in the SFF literary space. Generally, listing a work in a bibliography does not strictly require a citation. The factual claim is that "X author published Y book", and the existence of the published book itself serves as the citation.
For your specific question, you can read Wikipedia:WikiProject Bibliographies#Author bibliographies, specifically the section on book links. Generally most editors will only add external links if the book is freely available online, which is not often applicable to recent books.
Thanks again for your additions to several pages - I have appreciated your contributions so far. I hope you never get your "head ripped off" by anyone here. It can be tough to learn all the policies and quirks, but I hope you stick around and keep up your contributions! Michelangelo1992 (talk) 16:14, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay. Thank you. Appreciate it. And thank you for your kind words!OrbitingJupiter (talk) 16:22, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:One Day All This Will be Yours.jpeg

[edit]
Image

A tag has been placed on File:One Day All This Will be Yours.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sturgeon Award

[edit]

Just to point out I've edited the page a bit to add in 2nd and third place for 2024 and 2025. I see 2020 results are available on Locus online, but the SFDB links in the bulk of the citations are 404ing. Just in case you're doing a huge update in a draft space. Locus does have results for 2020 as well, but the rest will need hunting down.Nickpheas (talk) 10:51, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for adding those! (And for your other contributions in the SFF space - I see your edits a lot and appreciate them.) I meant to add more than a single year, but Locus and SFADB immediately crashed after I began working. I'll be adding more throughout the week, assuming the sources are back up. But feel free to help as well if you're interested - I usually don't utilize draft spaces except for new pages. Thank you! Michelangelo1992 (talk) 11:40, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
And we meet again on the Aldiss award. Any idea how a ((pending)) tag can be combined with a rowspan merged cell? Nickpheas (talk) 09:44, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I had no idea how to do this, but it looks like someone (you?) was able to get it figured out on the Brian Aldiss page. Also, it looks like SFADB is down (hopefully temporarily - someone may have forgotten to renew the domain name). Once that gets sorted, I'll be moving back to the Sturgeon Award page to make further updates there. I hate leaving projects unfinished - hopefully it gets fixed soon!
