Guest post from a white editor here - I'm working on cleaning up a series of pages about minorities in ice hockey. Happy to collaborate or defer to others.

Requesting help at Afro-Nicaraguans

[edit]

Hi, I just noticed this page is not listed as one of the relevant pages at Wikipedia:WikiProject African diaspora. Also, I've been working on this page going line by line to try to make it coherent and in-line with the souce. The first half of the history section is almost entirely from a single source. If there's anyone who can help add new sources, I think it would be very helpful... Slava570 (talk) 12:37, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Article Request: Reverend Enoch Ward, Jr. (Georgia Tech Integration Pioneer)

[edit]

Hello,

I would like to request the creation of a biographical article for Reverend Enoch Ward, Jr., a significant figure in the history of university integration and civil rights in Georgia.

Because I am a close family member, I have a clear Conflict of Interest (COI) and cannot create or edit this page myself. However, I believe his historical milestones easily clear the threshold for Wikipedia's Notability guidelines (specifically under WP:BIO and historical significance) and warrant an entry.

Historical Significance

  • Integration Pioneer: In the fall of 1964, Enoch Ward, Jr. became the first Black student to integrate campus housing at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) [2.2.3, 2.51].
  • Academic First: In 1967, he became the first Black student to graduate from Georgia Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Later Career & Community Impact: He spent his career as a successful design engineer for Dow Chemical and Procter & Gamble before returning to Augusta, Georgia, where he served as a prominent local community pastor and leader until his passing in 2020.

Verifiable Third-Party Sources

To assist any volunteer editors interested in taking on this project, I have compiled verified, independent institutional and media references:

  1. Georgia Tech Student Publication Archives (1964): Page 7 explicitly documents and names Enoch Ward, Jr. integrating campus housing: gatech.edu
  2. Georgia Tech 85th Commencement Records (1967): The official university registry confirming his graduation in Chemical Engineering: gatech.edu
  3. The Augusta Chronicle (Historical Profile): Detailed regional news reporting covering his civic legacy: augustachronicle.com
  4. The Augusta Chronicle (Career and Legacy Overview): Documenting his engineering career and community leadership: legacy.com

If any editor is willing to draft a stub or a full article for Rev. Ward, I would be incredibly grateful. I am happy to answer any high-level timeline questions on this talk page to assist.

Thank you for your time and for preserving this history. VeronPNK29 (talk) 19:46, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
