Importance rating for Encounters Film Festival article

[edit]

The Encounters Film Festival article is currently rated Low-importance for WikiProject Bristol. Based on the project's own importance criteria which defines Mid-importance as "nationally known" institutions I would suggest this rating is too low.

Encounters has been running since 1995, making it one of Bristol's longest-running annual cultural institutions, and the longest running international short film competition in the UK. It is an internationally competitive festival drawing submissions from over 50 countries, qualifying for the Academy Awards, BAFTA, BIFA, and the only UK festival to hold a nomination for the European Film Awards. It has received coverage in The Guardian, BBC News, and Screen Daily, and draws industry professionals from Netflix, the BBC, and the BFI to Bristol each September.

The festival has also brought many significant figures from international cinema to Bristol over the years, including Hayao Miyazaki, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Matt Groening, Ray Harryhausen, Andrea Arnold, Charlie Kaufman, and Michel Gondry. Films from its competition have subsequently won Academy Awards.

Mid-importance seems the appropriate rating by the project's own scale. Declared COI: I am the Executive Director of Encounters Film Festival. DaveTaylorMatthews (talk) 15:04, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
