Photos taken by state agencies/departments...copyright/free-use?
[edit]Hey everyone!
Does anyone know if photos taken by Washington state agencies or departments are similar to the copyright use of pictures taken by federal-level agencies/departments? For instance, if I wanted to add a Washington State Department of Ecology or WSDOT photo to an article, is it free-use?
If not, can it be attributed a certain way that the photo can be used on Wikipedia?
My thanks in advance!

- Generally, states don't have the same sort of public domain policies the federal government has. The WSDOT home page has a copyright statement at the bottom, so it's good to assume that all Washington State government photos are not free-use. They would therefore fall under the standard WP:NFCC rules. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:45, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks SarekOfVulcan for the quick response!
- Copyright scares me good so I'm not gonna mess with it then. Too many hoops to jump thru in the hopes that maybe its all good to use.
