Healing Justice Ldn builds the capacities, skills, and infrastructures we need to support community-centred health and healing.
We move knowing that oppression causes premature death. Knowing that the systems and structures our society is built upon rely on subjugation, violence, and domination in order to retain power. Health infrastructures from formalised medical care to housing and community spaces have been infected by late-stage racial capitalism and no longer serve us. Broad transformation is required to build life-affirming infrastructures that support health and healing.
We are inspired by and build upon social, disability and health justice, somatics, embodiment and trauma-informed practice, involving deep listening and authentic lived experience participation. We merge theory with practice to reimagine wholeness and wellbeing at the frontlines of adversity, disadvantage and oppression. We are led by people of colour and lived experience, working on the intersections of oppression, health, healing and liberation practice.
We believe that personal, relational, and structural transformation is essential for building community-centred health. When we transform towards a shared vision our power is multiplied and our ideas take root.
We co-design and build needs-based community programming to equip individuals and communities with tools to heal from trauma, learn from different struggles and analyses, develop a strong sense of self-connection, and practice our collective liberation. These spaces include regular programming such as our breath circle and yoga spaces along with events and resources that respond directly to changing conditions. We provide programming and resources in partnership with lived experience practitioners, organisations and community groups. These relationships form the basis of efforts to support community mobilisation around voicing experiences, growing nuanced analysis and evidence, mapping and recognising needs and solutions and reimagining health systems.
We create space for programming that is responsive to political moments, to support the capacity of activists, prevent burnout, conflict and sustain the longevity of our resistance to state violence and oppression. Our Movement Medicine programme connects and resources movement leaders through training, networking and practice spaces. It facilitates collaborative work to create, test and build practices and alternatives, as well as share and scale learning. It supports us to become skillful in navigating sites of breakdown such as conflict, depletion, collective trauma and resource scarcity etc. towards robust ecosystems of collaboration and shared learning.
We conduct transdisciplinary research into the harms, impacts and outcomes of current health systems; producing analysis that creates an authentic counter-narrative grounded in lived experience and presents viable alternatives. We create resources and tools grounded in our experiences and research to support shifting narratives of community-led health and healing. Our work in this area engages both radical practitioners, artists, creative and cultural workers, and experts by experience to reshape narratives within policy, public health, and culture towards larger societal transformation.
Our structural interventions advocate for systemic shifts in the health and broader public sector. We work across sectors and fields to collaboratively challenge outdated structures using a range of tools such as political advocacy, research, communications and campaigning, strategic litigation and direct interventions. Our co-created projects, such as Deaths by Welfare, expose the conditions and consequences and develop methodology to alleviate harm while building different models and analysis. We work at sites of power to partner with organisations to shift and leverage power, understand trauma, oppression and transformation and build thinking and practice around alternative equitable and just models and infrastructures.
We design and build radical curricula and infrastructure, modelling their transformative potential to present viable alternatives. We collectively build networks, relationships and coalitions, systems, processes and methodologies. We are working towards a 10-year strategy that will culminate with a physical test site, a cultural health centre, which will locate the elements of our practice in one place, allowing us to ground and iterate our methodologies with local communities.
