This year’s Brussels Privacy Symposium award sponsor Consumer Empowerment Project - CEP just wrapped up their session! Marco Scialdone (euroconsumers) and Wojciech Wiewiorowski (EDPS - European Data Protection Supervisor ) debated whether current foundational frameworks, such as the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, remain resilient enough to govern emerging technologies. 🏆The session also featured a special moment: the announcement of the 2026 My Data is Mine Award winner, Larisa Munteanu! We are thrilled to celebrate Larisa Munteanu as the recipient of this year’s My Data is Mine Award for her outstanding paper: "The Abuse & Misuse of the GDPR Right of Access: Refining the Sharp Edges of the Digital Omnibus Proposal". It was fantastic to have Larisa join us on stage for the very first time at the Brussels Privacy Symposium — co-hosted by the Future of Privacy Forum and the Brussels Privacy Hub of Vrije Universiteit Brussel — to share her work alongside EDPS - European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiorowski and CEP Director Marco Scialdone. Her paper tackles a key debate under the Digital Omnibus: how data controllers can counter bad-faith access requests under the GDPR. This scholarship will support Julita as a doctoral researcher at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences, Uniwersytet Łódzki advancing her research in European consumer law with a vital focus on protecting public debate. We extend our special gratitude to Prof. Monika Namysłowska for her academic leadership and guidance in supporting emerging legal scholars. We are proud to stand behind such a dedicated researcher as she begins this exciting new academic chapter. 🇪🇺✨ I’m very happy to share that I’ve been selected to join the Consumer Leadership Academy under the Consumer Empowerment Project - CEP at the College of Europe in Bruges, taking place from 28–30 October 2026. 🇧🇪 This year’s edition, “Enforcing consumer rights for a fairer market,” will bring together a small group of legal professionals, policymakers, academics and consumer representatives to explore some of the most important questions shaping Europe’s digital regulatory landscape. 🤝💡 The programme will focus in particular on consumer rights in the algorithmic age, including the upcoming Digital Fairness Act, enforcement in digital markets ⚖️, platform transparency under the Digital Services Act, digital manipulation, and the evolving relationship between public and private enforcement. For me, this is especially relevant to the work I do at the intersection of privacy 🔐, AI governance 🤖 and technology regulation.
