FPF recently submitted comments in response to the Vermont Office of the Attorney General’s rulemaking process for the Vermont Age-Appropriate Design Codes (S 69). In July 2026, the Vermont Attorney General’s Office launched a formal rulemaking to provide guidance on data processing and design practices, as well as age assurance methods, review processes for age appeals, and additional privacy protections for age assurance data. FPF’s comments address three primary topics: data processing and design practices, personalization and compulsive use, and age assurance. These comments seek to ensure these regulations clarify compliance ambiguities and support interoperability with existing privacy frameworks. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/evvqmxya

🎉That’s a wrap on the 10th Brussels Privacy Symposium! Together with our co-hosts at the Brussels Privacy Hub, we brought #BPS2026 to a close today at Les Ateliers des Tanneurs after a full day of conversations on the future of privacy, data protection, and digital governance. From the evolving role of the GDPR and Digital Omnibus negotiations to platform regulation, age assurance, and agentic AI, the day explored some of the most pressing questions shaping the next decade of data protection. We also looked further ahead, with an expert dialogue between Joris van Hoboken (Universiteit van Amsterdam), and Fabiana Da Pieve (European Commission), exploring the intersection of quantum technologies and privacy. A special thank you to our Honored Guest Speaker, Lokke Moerel (Tilburg University), for her insights, and to all our speakers, panelists, attendees and sponsors Consumer Empowerment Project - CEP, Microsoft and Prosus , for making the 10th edition such a success. 👋See you next year!

Our third panel, “Visions for the Next Decade of Tech: From Uncertainty to Solutions”, moderated by FPF Managing Director for Europe, Bianca-Ioana M., is exploring how advances in AI, robotics, quantum computing, and new digital and scientific discoveries will create opportunities and risks that will test the resilience of EU data protection law. Participating in this conversation are 🔵David Barnard-Wills (Information Commissioner's Office ) 🔵Itxaso Domínguez de Olazábal, PhD. (European Digital Rights ) 🔵Daniel Gueorguiev (Domyn), and 🔵Margherita Corrado (EU AI Office). Together, they are examining ways to safeguard core data protection values in a fast-changing environment. #BPS2026

For today’s lightning talk, we’re joined by Stacey Gray, Senior Director for Artificial Intelligence at the Future of Privacy Forum. Her session, “From Words to Worlds: The Future of Spatial Intelligence and Bystander Privacy,” explored what happens when AI moves beyond language to understand the physical world around us. From privacy in public and private spaces to the limits of traditional approaches built around notice, consent, and data rights, Stacey examined whether our existing frameworks can keep pace with the rise of spatial intelligence. #BPS2026

We’re now diving into our second panel, “To Share or Not to Share? Platform Regulation Meets Privacy.” As data-sharing and interoperability become increasingly important tools in digital market regulation, a key question emerges: how do we balance the push to open up data with the need to protect privacy and personal data? 🎤Moderated by Prof. Sophie Stalla-Bourdillon (Brussels Privacy Hub), the panel features: 🔵Lukasz Olejnik, Ph.D, LL.M, Independent Researcher and Consultant 🔵Gary Davis, Apple 🔵Friederike Schüür, Ada Lovelace Institute 🔵Sebastião Barros Vale, EDPS - European Data Protection Supervisor. Among the questions on the table: ➡️Are privacy and competition objectives increasingly aligned or in conflict? ➡️In the AI Age, could opening up systems to third parties create new cybersecurity risks? ➡️Is “data portability” still fit for purpose in ecosystems dominated by machine learning systems? #BPS2026
