"There's that little realisation that actually... we've done it." Simon Davies discussing about what it felt like piloting the first full transition flight. The Vertical Aerospace Chief Test Pilot spoke at Cranfield University with the Royal Aeronautical Society about the journey of eVTOL aircraft from concept to reality. He shared how advances in technology, testing and certification are helping bring electric flight closer to everyday aviation. Watch the full lecture below. https://lnkd.in/ey9EFgAR

Tesla’s flying car has grabbed attention. For Vertical Chief Test Pilot Simon Davies, the key question is “how reliably it can repeat that performance and how it responds if something goes wrong”. Vertical’s own passenger aircraft, Valo, is designed to meet the same stringent safety standards as commercial airliners. “It takes time because every claim about the aircraft’s safety has to be backed by evidence,” says Davies. Great to be back at Cranfield University yesterday for the 2026 Handley Page Lecture, hosted by its Aerospace and Aviation Alumni Association in partnership with the Royal Aeronautical Society ✈️ Having focused my MSc thesis on eVTOL, it was particularly interesting to hear Simon Davies, Chief Test Pilot at Vertical Aerospace, discuss the journey from early prototypes to the full-scale VX4, including its two-way transition flight milestone and the development of Valo. I've continued to follow the sector closely ever since, particularly the commercial opportunities around eVTOL deployment, infrastructure and market potential. #eVTOL #AdvancedAirMobility #CranfieldUniversity #VerticalAerospace

Really pleased to welcome ANH Structure and LITEF to the Valo programme. Two partnerships that speak to what we’re building: a great passenger experience backed by leading aerospace engineering. ANH will develop our bespoke seating, helping us make the most of Valo’s class-leading cabin space: a premium four-passenger interior, with the cabin volume to scale to six passengers in comfort. On the navigation side, LITEF’s mature, high integrity and high performance LCR-110 packs impressive inertial and satellite navigation capability. RNP 0.1 capability enabling RNP-AR operations compliant with EASA AMC 20-26 and FAA AC 90-101A. For those who enjoy the avionics detail as much as I do, you can checkout the LCR-110 data sheet on LITEF’s website. #VerticalVALO #eVTOL #EVTL #electricaviation

On this day, six months ago, Vertical Aerospace achieved the world's first two-way piloted transition flight under civil aviation Design Organisation Approval regulatory oversight. Vertical's Chief Test Pilot, Simon Davies, completed the flight by transitioning from vertical take-off to wingborne cruise and back to vertical landing, all in one continuous flight.
