Pokmon of the Day

In Pokmon Gold / Silver, don't drink the water.

May 22, 2000

Every day we'll pick a Pokmon to be IGNpocket's Pokmon of the Day. Maybe it'll be from the existing games, maybe it'll be from the future Pokmon Gold and Silver titles that will hit the shelves in Japan this month - you'll just have to stop back and find out.

By the way, our Ultimate Pokmon Collector contest is now over, so thanks to everybody who played. We're cooking up another extraordinary contest for you (think exclusive Japanese Pokmon goodies), but in the mean time brush up on you Pokmon knowledge in our IGN Pokdex, a listing of all Pokmon and their usefulness in battle. It's updated daily, so once you've registered for it once be sure to come back and find out which Pokmon have been added and updated.

Now, on to today's Pokmon of the Day:

Sonansu(#202)

Image Pronunciation:
SO-NON-SU

Element
Psychic

Type
Psychic

Height
4' 3"

Weight
62 lbs.

Techniques
Counter
Mirror Coat
Normal Mist
Death Grip

In Pokmon Gold / Silver, don't drink the water.

As an educational service for Pokmon fans and players, we at the Pokmon of the Day are constantly looking for new ways to serve our readers. For instance, Andrea D'Koupal had this suggestion for us:

For 'Pokmon of the Day', maybe it would be best if you included a paragraph about the Pokmon itself, its role in the video game or cartoon, usefulness...

Well hey, Andrea, thanks for the suggestion! We'll give that a try right now with today's Pokmon, Sonansu.

This Pokmon is actually two Pokmon in one. The main Pokmon is Sonansu itself, a Psychic type of Pokmon that does not evolve (at least, not in the Japanese or the upcoming Pokmon Gold / Silver games, but an evolution may came with a newer series of games in the future). It looks very much like the puffy Pokmon Upaa and Nuoh, but these two are Water types and not at all related. Most of this Pokmon's attacks are defensive. For instance, the Death Grip makes it that if your Pokmon is defeated, your opponent's Pokmon will also automatically fall too.

The other Pokmon is its little buddy, hanging off Sonansu's backside. There isn't a Japanese name for this one, but we'll call this Fighting-type Pokmon "Bilirubin" (named for the pigment that gives it that odd color.) As you can see here, it makes Sonansu really mad, and he tries to push him away when "Bilirubin" starts becoming a pain in the rear. Compared to Sonansu, "Bilirubin" is a vicious little bugger, and its attacks will definitely make a mess of any would-be Pokmon trainer. We're guessing its moves include Sudden Leakage, Floating Subs, and Colon Blow...if it actually attacks, of course. Otherwise it just pokes its head out like a turtle...

You know, maybe we should have started this with a different Pokmon -- that was a bit too much information. But you asked for it, Andrea. Hope you're happy.

NOTE: This Pokmon is based on the Japanese version of Pokmon Gold / Silver. The names and visual appearance of the new Pokmon in the game may change when Nintendo releases Pokmon Gold and Silver in America. Also, the second part of this article may or may not have been completely fabricated, and / or designed to sicken readers without respect for the truth. Pokmon is a registered trademark of Nintendo of America.

For strategy on how to use your Pokmon in your Game Boy and Nintendo 64 Pokmon games, click onto the IGN Pokdex! You must be a registered user to view this feature, but registration is absolutely free, and includes a nickname for our NEW IGN Chat feature, free IGNmail, a My IGN web page, and access to our IGN contests.
