Get Ready! UAE Gamers to Battle at Dubai GameFest 2012
Video gaming, both console and PC, is hugely popular in the Middle East especially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A large number of gamers log on every day to play their favourite games online with other players from across the world and that number is increasing every day as more and more youngsters connect online.
Even with the great interest in video gaming there is a dearth of official events for gamers where they are able to check out the newest video game titles or take part in tournaments with other players.
Just recently in April, the Middle East region belatedly got its first video game and comic convention which took place in Dubai and was a huge success as thousands of gamers and comic fans came in to participate.
With the huge success of that convention, another big event is ready to take place in Dubai and is expected to attract video game fans from across the UAE.
The Living Rooms Cafe in Dubai Festival City is holding a gaming tournament on Friday.
Called GameFest the event seeks to bring together players from across the Emirates to take part in multiple gaming tournaments while also checking out the latest offerings from some of the biggest game publishers in the world.
IGN Middle East, the world’s largest network for gamers is organising the event and participants can expect an entertaining experience at GameFest.
Gamers will be able to test their skills with other players in a number of tournaments.
GameFest will include tournaments for acclaimed titles such as Counter-Strike, FIFA 12, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, Street Fighter 4 and Marvel vs Capcom 3.
The tournaments that will pit some of the UAE’s highest skilled players will gain the bulk of attention but fans also have the chance to try out games that are as yet unreleased and try out the latest gaming gadgets coming out.
GameFest will provide a complete and comprehensive gaming experience that will satisfy even the most hardcore gamer.
Nick Rego, the senior editor at IGN Middle East told The National newspaper:
“GameFest is the place to be if you’re a gamer. Each time we’ve held it, there has been a great turnout of gamers eager to check out the latest games and take part in tournaments.”
He continued:
“There aren’t too many gaming-related events that happen in the region, so we always look forward to hosting GameFest. We have competitions that let gamers showcase their skills, game previews, and also a cosplay competition [for best costume] that brings some very talented cosplayers.”
Costume competitions are an inherent part of any gaming event and GameFest will have its own competition to crown the fan who has the best costume.
