[ICS-2547] Call for expression of interest for one (1) Research Assistant
Modern astrophysical research requires analysis of massive datasets due to the unprecedented volume of data generated by advanced telescopes and observational instruments, which capture detailed information on celestial objects and events. Analyzing these large datasets enables scientists to uncover the underlying patterns and structures in the universe, leading to breakthrough discoveries and a deeper understanding of fundamental astrophysical processes. The HORIZON project “TITAN – Frugal Artificial Intelligence and Application in Astrophysics”, funded under the HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-TALENTS-01 program aims to develop novel computational paradigms for astrophysical data analysis through the use of deep learning methods in high performance computing environments. Within this project, we are seeking one (1) highly motivated research assistant to join our team and support the operation and further development of the TITAN Open Science and Collaboration Platform (OSCeP) and the applications built on it, including OrbitalMosaic, a cloud-based platform for persistent, satellite-driven environmental monitoring. The successful candidate will contribute to activities focusing on: • Administration, maintenance and security of the project's server and Kubernetes-based computing infrastructure, including GPU resources, storage, identity management (SSO) and integrated research services • Further development, scaling and expansion of the OrbitalMosaic platform, including new data sources, monitoring capabilities, areas of interest and user-facing features The responsibilities for these positions include: • Administer, monitor and maintain the project's servers, Kubernetes clusters and integrated services (e.g., JupyterHub, Argo Workflows, Harbor, Gitea, Grafana), ensuring availability, security and performance • Establish, document and apply operational procedures for user onboarding, access management, backups, updates and incident handling • Support researchers in deploying containerized workloads, reproducible pipelines and services on the platform • Develop and extend the OrbitalMosaic backend and processing pipelines, including ingestion and processing of satellite imagery (Sentinel-1/2), meteorological and terrain data, and time-series analytics • Integrate AI and deep learning models developed within TITAN into the platform's operational workflows • Contribute to the development of web interfaces, dashboards and APIs • Collaborate with domain experts, data scientists and engineers to translate research needs into platform features • Test, validate and document the developed software, services and procedures
