Our Mission is at the forefront of each of our strategic decisions, how we care for our patients and communities, and how we treat one another as associates every single day. It shapes our culture long before a clinical decision is made and extends far beyond our hospital walls. Tom VanOsdol, FACHE, Executive Vice President and Chief Mission Integration Officer at Ascension, shares his perspective on how our Mission drives care and decision-making beyond the bedside. “When we understand our Mission and Catholic ministry identity as our firm and unwavering foundation, and the catalyst for all we do — rooted in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer and the legacies of our historic sponsors — it guides both the decisions we make and how we lead and move our ministry forward in service to all.” During Mission Month at Ascension, we are reminded of our shared calling to serve every person with compassion, dignity, and respect. Whether through healthcare services or community health investment, our Mission and ministry identity continue to guide who we are and all we do.

Every day, Ascension associates are finding new ways to care for all and strengthen the communities we serve. Over the past year, teams across Ascension have worked to expand access, improve outcomes, and address the needs that can shape a person’s health, both inside and outside our hospitals and clinics. The impact is reflected in the stories and data featured in our Ministry in Action report, from millions of social determinants of health screenings to expanded virtual care, community health services, medication access, cancer screenings, and research. Behind every number are people working to make healthcare more accessible, connected, and responsive to the communities we serve.
