We're an AI research lab building a search engine for the future.
About us
Exa is an applied AI research lab organizing human knowledge, starting with the web. Exa Search is the highest quality search API at every latency. It accepts natural language queries and produces token-efficient results with citations. Exa Agent is a high-compute web agent that synthesizes information from across the web to handle the most complex deep research, list-building, and enrichment workflows. These products power Cursor, Cognition, Hubspot, OpenRouter, Monday.com, and agents built by over 500,000 developers. We are a worldwide team of engineers and researchers. Introducing Exa 3.0, a step change in search for agents. Exa 3.0 led on every benchmark we tested, from public research evals to coding and GTM intelligence. The gains come from upgrades across our retrieval stack: our largest embedding model, Dynamic Highlights that use 95% fewer tokens than full pages, and billions of new documents covering products, local businesses, flights, sports, and weather. We are also launching Exa Lite at $4 per 1,000 requests for cost-sensitive apps. For higher quality, Exa Auto spends more compute on every query. Together, they set the new Pareto frontier for search. For coding agents, financial research, and AI assistants answering everyday questions, Exa 3.0 is state of the art.

At Exa, a new ranking idea can mean updating an index spanning hundreds of billions of pages. Jan van der Vegt takes us inside Exa Skeleton at #Reverie2026, from continuous ingestion to massive column backfills. The challenge is keeping production data evolving while billions of new crawls arrive each day. Apply to attend → https://lnkd.in/ggfYhVgs

Exa just passed $100m in annualized revenue. We've grown almost exactly 10x per year for 3 years. We now handle 2 billion requests a month from 200k+ teams. And it’s still so early: We predict agents will search 1000x more than humans by 2030. Agents don't search like humans. They write long, complex queries and want all the world's data, not just the web. We've spent 5 years building a search engine designed for them. We now serve personal agents, AI labs, coding agents, GTM agents, really any agent. Exa gives these agents access to 100s of billions of web documents and tons of proprietary data. Our customers are increasingly noticing that information is the bottleneck to agent performance. While the world seems close to perfect intelligence with models like Fable and Astra, we are very far from perfect information. To our small but legendary team, thank you for getting us here, from engineering to research to GTM to ops. To our customers, it is an honor to serve you. We have some exciting releases coming soon and can't wait to share them

Search agents get more than 90% of their results right but they still miss a third or more of what exists. In prospecting, due diligence, and prior art search, those misses lead to lost revenue and unhandled risk. Existing benchmarks cannot measure the gap. ATLAS can. Agents built and stress tested an answer key for 547 real world tasks over roughly 4,800 agent hours. A sampled audit estimates under 1% of its values are wrong. Grading a full run costs about 24 cents, and we can refresh ATLAS every 3 to 6 months.

We sat down with 3Blue1Brown to discuss our research vision of "Attention over all the world's information." Plus why knowledge should not live in model weights, the compression trick behind cheaper retrieval, and why we hire through work trials.
