🌍 Seven principles for a critical transdisciplinary approach to planetary health We are delighted to share the publication in The Lancet Planetary Health, a landmark paper for JHU-UPF Public Policy Center and GREDS-EMCONET and a collective statement of how we believe transdisciplinary research should be understood and practised. The multiple, interconnected crises affecting human and planetary health cannot be adequately understood through fragmented disciplinary perspectives alone. But transdisciplinarity must mean more than bringing different disciplines together. It requires us to critically examine how knowledge is produced, whose knowledge counts, how power shapes research agendas, and whether our work contributes to addressing the structural drivers of health inequities and ecological degradation. In this piece, we put forward seven principles for a critically engaged transdisciplinarity, arguing for an approach that is not merely methodological, but also epistemological, political, and oriented towards social transformation. Our ambition is to help move planetary health research beyond disciplinary integration towards a more reflexive, inclusive, and transformative practice; one capable of engaging seriously with complexity, structural inequalities, and the urgent need for systemic change. 👏 A heartfelt thank you to all my colleagues for the intellectual exchange, critical discussions, and collective effort behind this work: Joan Benach, Lucinda Cash-Gibson, PhD, Christos Zografos, Laila Vivas, Joana Morrison, ELIANA MARTINEZ HERRERA, Ornella Moreno-Mattar, Natalia Tumas, Mariana Gutiérrez-Zamora Navarro, Juan Manuel Pericàs, and Carles Muntaner. We hope this contribution stimulates debate about not only what planetary health research should study, but also how, with whom, and ultimately for what purpose. 📖 Read the paper in The Lancet Planetary Health: https://lnkd.in/e4v_ZVuh #PlanetaryHealth #Transdisciplinarity #HealthEquity #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #PoliticalEconomy #PublicHealth #Sustainability Planetary Health Alliance Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health
