We enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy and community service.

About us

LCRA exists to serve the people of Texas. It’s been that way since the state Legislature created us in 1934. We continue that legacy today by providing a multitude of vital services to our customers and communities. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy and community service. LCRA produces and delivers electric power, manages the lower Colorado River and provides a reliable water supply, manages a public parks system and supports community development. We are funded by revenue we generate, the vast majority of which comes from generating and transmitting electricity. A very small portion of our revenue comes from selling water. We do not receive state appropriations or have the ability to levy taxes. We have deep roots in Texas, dating as far back as the Great Depression of the 1930s. We built the chain of dams that tamed the Colorado River and brought power to rural Central Texas for the first time.

More than 3 feet in a week. 🌊 Recent rain, plus floodwaters passed through lakes LBJ and Marble Falls this weekend, has Lake Travis sitting at 95% full. Thank you to our team for working around the clock to manage the water, and to local meteorologists and media partners for helping share safety info with the public. #WeAreLCRA

Water is a big part of life in Matagorda County - and 31 local high school seniors recently got a behind-the-scenes look at how it’s managed. During a Leadership Matagorda County visit to Matagorda Bay Nature Park, LCRA’s Stephen Crow shared how our irrigation operations help move water through the region, including where that water comes from and how it’s distributed to meet agricultural needs. The Leadership Matagorda County program gives seniors from across the county an opportunity to learn firsthand about the industries and issues that shape their community. We’re always happy to help the next generation learn more about the water systems at work in their own backyard.

When the City of Fredericksburg needed an old, unused radio tower removed near the visitor center, our Transmission crews were ready to help. The crew safely dismantled the tower piece by piece earlier this week - with a little help from a crane and some pretty good views. 🏗️

Kolaches & continuous improvement go hand-in-hand at LCRA. 🤝 This week, EVP and COO of Transmission Kristian Koellner and the Transmission leadership team recognized dozens of employees who found smarter ways to boost safety, streamline operations and strengthen reliability - proof that our commitment to continuous improvement lives in the everyday work our teams do. We celebrated with gifts, fellowship and (of course) kolaches. Thank you to everyone who brings this mindset to work every day. #WeAreLCRA

The lineup for GCPA's 41st Annual Fall Conference is set — and this is not a conference to sit out. Building the Grid of 2050: One Decision at a Time brings together the people actually making the calls that will define Texas's energy future. Here's who you'll hear from: 🎤 Robert Gaudette (CEO, NRG Energy) in conversation with Pat Wood, III, the former FERC Chairman who helped write the rules this market still runs on 🎤 Pablo Vegas (CEO, ERCOT) and Thomas Gleeson (Chairman, Public Utility Commission of Texas) — together on stage for an unscripted look at the decisions shaping the grid through 2050 🎤 Rudy D. Garza Garza (CEO and General Manager, LCRA) on leading Central Texas's energy and water future at a moment when growth and grid transformation are colliding The topics don't play it safe, either: 🔹 Does ERCOT need a 765kV backbone? Two sharp advocates debate the case for and against major transmission upgrades across the system — no moderator softening the edges 🔹 The Vanishing Spark Spread — what happens to gas and battery economics when scarcity spikes disappear 🔹 Post-Batch Zero — what actually got delivered vs. what's speculative reservation 🔹 Jobs in 2035 — what the Texas energy workforce will actually need a decade from now 🔹 A live podcast recording with S&P Global Energy Evolution 🔹 A multi-generational panel discussing where this market goes next Plus a full pre-conference workshop, "Who Pays for the Grid?", digging into ERCOT's transmission cost allocation overhaul before the 90th Legislature convenes. 850+ power professionals. 350+ companies. Nearly half at VP level or above. This is where the ERCOT ecosystem shows up to argue about what matters — and you'll want to be in the room.
