Today is World Mental Health Day! 🌍💜 It's a day to remind ourselves that mental health matters, and that every conversation can make a difference. This year, we're putting listening at the heart of the day. By listening to others, we can help them feel less alone, whatever they're going through. But listening matters beyond our personal relationships. When employers, public services, government, and other decision-makers listen to people's experiences, they can better understand what helps, what harms, and what needs to change. Today's findings from the UK government’s mental health review confirm what our own research and experiences tell us: the mental health crisis is real. And the crisis was never down to overdiagnosis. We need to move past unhelpful arguments about whether levels of poor mental health are real, and instead focus on preventing the suffering people are experiencing. The government must face the facts in front of them and change its approach to tackling poor mental health. Instead of only treating us when we get to crisis point, it's time to focus on preventing mental health problems before they occur.
