More than 20,000 street vendors work in New York City. Many still use diesel generators that pollute the air and endanger the health of the workers and pedestrians. During Climate Week NYC, The Trust partnered with the Street Vendor Project and Anew for a panel on helping vendors move to cleaner power. The Trust supports the Street Vendor Project, a program of the Urban Justice Center, to help advance conversion of diesel to electric generators across the city. Arturo Garcia-Costas, who leads The Trust's environmental grantmaking, moderated. He opened with a story about the vendor who makes him egg sandwiches near our Midtown office. "I look at him and I realize that he is breathing those fumes for 12, 14 hours a day," he said. "That fundamentally doesn't make sense. It is unjust." Thank you to our panelists: Heather Lubov of City Parks Foundation, Paul Onyx Lozito of the NYC Mayor's Office of Climate & Environmental Justice, and Andrew Conca-Cheng of the Street Vendor Project.

Beautiful photographs. Thank you for sharing. We’re grateful to partner with SAGE, and provide vital funding for its programs thanks to donors who created legacy funds with us that support LGBTQ+ communities.
We are so grateful for our incredible community partners, like The New York Community Trust (NYCT) 🤝 In case you missed it, the NYCT funded our “Forever Authentic: Celebrating Older Trans Lives” photo series earlier this year. This project showcases the resilience and vibrance of non-binary and transgender elders' lives (select photos below). If you flip to page 21 of the NYCT's latest annual report below, you can check out SAGE's feature: https://loom.ly/_TpcQ64 🔗 Together, we can build a better future for LGBTQ+ folks of all ages and identities! #TransgenderLives #LGBTQAging #Impact

The New York Community Trust reposted this
Today was one of those days where I was proud to be both a New Yorker and part of The New York Community Trust. As a New Yorker it was so great to hear the Mayor of New York City announce a historic settlement of more than $115 million to compensate our City's to delivery workers. As part of The Trust, it is an honor to see first hand how a community foundation be part of the solution to support innovative, worker-driven solutions that help ensure fair treatment and compliance with labor standards. It is a privilege to be part of a team that cares about our delivery worker neighbors. I am particularly pleased that Worker's Justice Project (WJP), one of the nonprofits supported by the funds provided to The Trust has already been a Trust grantee for other projects--and thrilled to welcome the Workers’ Algorithm Observatory as another grantee. Read all about it in the press release below. https://lnkd.in/gXJGxrdR
