The Union of Concerned Scientists has tracked attacks on science in the US since 2001, which includes anything from withholding federal research funding to censoring scientific communication. Its new ‘Attacks on Science Tracker’ documents political interference in federal science under the second Trump administration, which has increased markedly. "The sharp growth of data centers creates unprecedented impacts on our electricity supply. Because electric companies are regulated monopolies maybe, just maybe, these companies will protect you and me from paying more on our electric bills. The signs so far don’t look so good, especially on power plant costs." Read Mike Jacobs's blog to learn more:

In late September, Earthjustice filed an appeal of a regulatory decision that allowed Meta Platforms to conceal information about its North Louisiana data center project, on behalf of the UCS and Louisiana-based Alliance for Affordable Energy (AAE). "Together, these cases illustrate two increasingly important fronts in climate accountability: whether decision-makers must confront the full emissions consequences of fossil fuel extraction, and whether fossil fuel companies can be held responsible for the financial costs of climate harms linked to their conduct. For each of these, scientific evidence is helping define the questions courts can meaningfully answer." Learn more in L Delta Merner, PhD's blog:
